Well, time for some SPOILERS. Since everyone here loves discussiing realms events and speculation on events to come.......
If not, just delete it.

Fun little intro aye? Let's put some perspective to it. 100 years in the future.

Drizzt talks about "The disastrous joining of two worlds" while also talking about the rise of Netheril(again), which can only be refering to "Shadowrealm", in which the shadowvar bring back the netheril empire VIA takeover in sembia, and the shadowstorm was unleashed. Details are not yet out, but it should be a kickass event.

Talking about how the spellplague decimated the entire world intrigued me. Seems like forgotten realms is about to have its biggest major catyclysm since Mystryl died and the floating cities all came crashing down, except on a global level. The dated year of spellplague is 1385, and the current Drizzt books are in 1369-1372.

He talks of one of his dear dear friends dying in Luskan right before Luskan was destroyed, dying as his dreams came crashing down beside the bodies of 5000 victims. Not sure who he is speaking of. He talks about seeing the greatest cathedral ever built and watching it it come burning and crashing down. He also speaks of witnessing the rise of Ellistraee and hope of goodly drow, only to see it also disappear....(Sketchy)

He mentions how the silver marches have flourished, yet Thay, Sembia, and Mulhorhand have not.......(Yikes)

Mod Edit: Added a "SPOILERS" tag to the scroll's title, and shifted it to a more appropriate shelf

This prologue has been discussed in connection with the changes 4ed will bring to the realms. Look for these threads to see what has been said so far.

This is very interesting in connection with the so called “points of lights”-approach one Forgotten Realms author has mentioned elsewhere. Many sages have said that this concept doesn’t fit the realms because they are much more civilized and populated than this approach assumes for a given setting. But if the Realms will be decimated in such great scale by the spellplague, then this approach becomes much more probable - most of the cities, realms and empires destroyed, large districts deserted, only here and there a settlement. I don’t think that I will like it.

The spellplague was set into the Forgotten Reams because there should be a major change in the use of magic in Forgotten Reams, and it is a good way to promote the new 4 edition system.

I don’t think I have much to add to this thread right now, but I provided a link to my home page, were you can see some information about the book: The Orc King

The FRCS has to be set in 1470-1485 then. How we could play in 1385 with an announced future ?

Drizzt also talks about the coming of the aboleths, whatever that is ...

An Aboleth is an ugly, psionic, intelligent fish type creature. It's detailed the Monster Manual and in Waterdeep: City of Splendors, they are mentioned as being in the sewer system and run a spy network of some kind (I think). I hope that helps

Not necessarily, the events he describes could happen in the period between current time (1375) and 1385 or shortly thereafter as fallout from the Spellplague.

Life is either daring adventure or nothing.

Or like an easy out for Wizards of the Coast. They can throw away all the old canon, say it was destroyed and thus make their own histories from now on, making familiar places into something different if it survived or was rebuilt.

Well, the status of Mithril Hall, Drizzt, Dark arrow, etc. would still be known.

Thank you, but my curiosity is more directed to their “coming”, which seems to be a major (catastrophic) event.

I forgot to mention that they like humanoid thralls and eat creatures to absorb thier knowledge and memories. But I'm sure someone would rather discuss The Orc King than the care, feeding and avoidance of aboleths.
