Character Description:

Haiko is the middle child and second son of a wealthy Waterdavian antiquities dealer, Harian the Grey (so called because of his piercing grey eyes). Harain was a very traditional man, much in agreement with the philosophy that the eldest son inherits everything. Consequently, Haiko's brother, Korliss, 3 years Haiko's senior, was groomed by their father to take over the family business. Haiko's sister, Lyssan, is two years younger than him.

Their mother died giving birth to Lyssan. Harian consoled himself by doting upon his daughter, causing ill feelings between Harian and his sons.

As the boys grew older, and Harian's plans became clear, Korliss' resent of Harian grew less, especially as his desire to make money grew larger. Haiko's resentment of his father continued to grow.

Short-changed of his father's affections by Harian's spoiling of his daughter and realizing he was not going to get anything from the family business, Haiko began frequenting the seedy taverns of Waterdeep's Dockside and by the time he was 20, already as large and strong as many of the bouncers he befriended, he was an accomplished brawler and knife fighter.

When Haiko was 25, Harian died, leaving the business to Korliss and a large sum of money to Lyssan. To Haiko, he left only advice: "Live your life as best you can and let no one be your judge but yourself. As I lie here dying, I realize I have always been proud of the way you dealt with what must have seemd to you to be a very unfair division of my affections and my wealth. Only now, at the end, do I realize you are the best of my children, I have turned Korliss into a greedy money-grubber and Lysasan into a spoiled child in a woman's body. Your loving father, Harian."

Haiko then fully immersed himself into the underworld of the Northern Sword Coast, and quickly garnered a reputation as an accomplished strong arm of loan sharks, pimps and others who need the presence of a big, intimidating man to make the uncooperative embrace wisdom. His quick wits also garnered him small-time assassination jobs.

His reputation as a man who got things done, didn't try to cheat his employers and who avoided calling attention to himself by engaging in the excessive brutality of common thugs attracted the attention of a small group of Waterdavians devoted to Loviatar. In this enclave of professional killers and "extractors of information", Haiko found a measure of contentment. It was as a member of this group that he met a a game warden-turned-bounty hunter from Moonshae, Chulain.

Finding that their outlook on life was almost identical, they became close friends. Since their skills are so complementary, they are almost always sent out as a team by the group.

For the past five years, their partnership has been a very successful one and Haiko patiently waits for the day when he can walk into his brother's office, dump a large chest of gold on the floor and smugly proclaim, "Now I am richer than you, brother".
