Ah, but Elminster have been banned from all professional matches since his bout with Raistlin Majere.
It was never conclusively proven that Elminster had anything to do with the unexpected appearance of the Volkswagen. |

Yeah, but I think it'd be more of a draw if it was mud wrestling! |

But yeah, its simple enough. Give the duel some meaning outside the actual contest. If you have a mage as an enemy to the party, have him challenge the parties mage to a duel in public. Winner gets some plot important item. |

Some of these suggestions sound like gimmick matches in pro wrestling.
This Sunday, Elminster and Szass Tam in a cage match! Plus, The Simbul and Storm in a tag team match against Alustriel and Qilué! |

Posted - 14 Dec 2006 : 12:59:24 -perhaps no wizzard can use any offensive spell the fight is being between summoned creatures -perhaps a high lvl exotic arena (ice cave? air bubble in the sea? a mountainpeak?) can be created via illusion (or teleport?)create arena events (stalagmites and stalactites be destroyed, critters attack or run for cover) -the duel will be always bitter if there is a prize... -perhaps the Evil one may use the crowd (toss a "missed" fireball at them) because he is sure the Good one will get confused to his advantage?
If everything else fails try party hats and kazoos...:-)

Posted - 12 Dec 2006 : 01:27:53 Both of them in a wild magic area. That should be interesting to watch, and I don't even like wizards. |

Posted - 11 Dec 2006 : 20:30:28 An interesting emotional relationship between them, and meaningful purposes/causes that they're fighting for. Good description of spell effects. Players/DM with good understanding of the characters' spells and how to use them and counter others'. Proper use of wards, mantles, and magical items. |

Posted - 11 Dec 2006 : 19:58:58 well one nasty way would have them duel and one of the wizards was in a magic-dead area, the other was just outside of it lol.
Other ways to make it interesting: -Adverse weather from the culmination of two mighty wizards tossing the weave at each other (penalties to cast, or make them roll to hit rolls to see their target lol) -have a group of people/monsters/annoyances throwing objects into the duel, (squid, rats, weapons etc. to randomly hit the mages and throw off casting. - make the ground unstable, ref checks before and after each spell. if fail- they fall - make them both blind, or blinded by enviornment..then the dice of the DM takes a RANDOM turn of events to see if they hit..lol beware by standers. - make a list of mid level creatures each wizard knows of or has encountered, then, do like the disney movie sword and the Stone. Have each only use polymorph and use the creature's abilities..(greatest wizard duel EVER)
just some of the things i've done to my dueling wizards. |

Posted - 11 Dec 2006 : 19:33:50 high stakes make things interesting. There's nothing like playing black-jack $500,000 a hand.
bad odds can make things harrowing.
special restrictions (i.e. no invocations) make things intersting.
... and party hats and kazoos |
