Additionally, what about other "supernatural" creatures? Lycanthropes, maybe? Were they the result of magic gone wrong? Created by some deity for its own reasons? |

There are diamond-like dusts in their skin which you can "harvest." They're more expensive than diamonds and black pearls. You'll get rich, or for those who already are, richer! |

-Radiant Vampires.
Positive energy leeches! They devour healing surges!
Perhaps a fallen solar who is turned into a vamp and whose "corrupted" magic-like abilities make him glow under the sunlight.
Or a kobold palladin of Tyr. |

If WotC hires Meyer. And if Meyer is prepared to write in third person omniscient.

It's actually more fun not know who exactly are the "firsts." Makes you want to write your theories and all that. An exciting avenue for creative writing.
-Eh, I can agree and disagree.

-Given the fact that there's so many different ways to become a Vampire, I doubt there's any actual "originators", concerning vampiricm. Same thing with lycanthropy.
Maybe, but I personally doubt it. Even if there are lots of different "originators" to the curse (each producing similar-ish effects in the long run), I would still guess that there had to be a particular time or place when the first person/creature/whatever triggered the change, or the phenomenon first appeared.
-Well, obviously, yeah. I mean that, there's no one out there as being the "original" vampires, the "original" lycanthropes, and so on. Just some nameless individuals, whose names have been lost to time, and are very unlikely ever to be mentioned directly in any way, shape, or form. Just like the first Lich, the same Zombie, the first Mystraran Clerics, and millions of other firsts. |

I don't think so. But nobody has ever asked who the first lich, Dragon, etc were either.
Though some people of certain races "claim" to be the first of their kind. |

I think in the realms, they simply exist and no backstory was given. |
