Not much is known of Chaulssin, the City of Wyrmshadows, not even by me. Did the inhabitants of the city follow Lolth, Vhaeraun, Ghaunadaur, Kairansalee, or some other deity? What caused it's fall from power? When did the Jaezred Chaulssin begin? If anyone has answers to these questions, please post.

Yes, I've already read it.....not too much info, I'm afraid
Faraer Posted - 13 Jan 2004 : 23:55:50
Chaulssin is listed in FOR2, discussed on p. 66 of DDGttU -- which suggests it's Nurvureem's origin, though her "Wyrms of the North" writeup doesn't say so -- and then what's been mentioned.

Not if Vhaeraun conquers the Seldarine!!!!!!
The Sage Posted - 13 Jan 2004 : 13:24:37
That is unlikely...

Yes, but you are Drow are you not, and you worship a Drow god?...My character is a gnome, who worships an Elven deity.
Shadowlord Posted - 09 Jan 2004 : 07:06:55
you forget, Vaheraun is an outcast, hes no more a member of the Seldarine than Baervan Wildwanderer.
The Sage Posted - 09 Jan 2004 : 07:05:23
Hmm...I thought your first response would be..."Huh, a gnome worshipping a member of the Seldarine...???"
Shadowlord Posted - 09 Jan 2004 : 07:02:49
hmmmm, tis a shame, a mind like yours would do the Masked Lord proud
The Sage Posted - 09 Jan 2004 : 07:01:30
Well, I wouldn't say that the worship of Zinzerena would be too far of a stretch for the populace, at least not the Jaezred Chaulssin anyway. She is afterall the very image of a master assassin, and is said to embody the very powerful principle of absolute chaos...

Sorry Shadowlord, but my faith belongs only to the Sage at Sunset...Labelas Enoreth...
Shadowlord Posted - 09 Jan 2004 : 06:54:41
I would not think Zinzerena too great a possibility, but as for Vhaeraun and Kairansalee, I suppose I can see them having places of worship in Chaulssin. Thank you for all your help Sage. Say, you wouldn't be interested in converting to the Faithful of Vhaeraun, now would you?
The Sage Posted - 09 Jan 2004 : 06:50:03
The entry in the Underdark tome makes no mention of any kind of deity worship, so you should be pretty safe to assume which ever faith you wish. Although during, or even post-Shadow Dragon occupation, I would say that both Vhaeraun and Kiaransalee could be a possibility...maybe even Zinzerena...
Shadowlord Posted - 09 Jan 2004 : 06:42:43
Thanks for your help Sage, you have my everlasting gratitude. Its not much, but its far more than i expected.... Now my only question is what deity the populace venerated. I would think it would be lolth, but there are colonies of Vhaeraun, temples of Eilistraee, and Ghaunadaur the slime lord, well, he has his mold
So once again thanks, and it seems as though I'll be making up a bit of information to complete my story....

Well in my own defense, it's been quite a while since I read that book, so...

Okay, here's what we know about the City of Wyrmshadows, called Chaulssin by some -

This semi-deserted crumbling ruin is said to lay below the northern most tip of the Rauvin Mountains, in the Middle Underdark. The city rests on an unusually large and awkward spur of hard stone overhanging a very large, and very deep abyss. The city sits at the top of this spur resting in the emptiness of the underground cavern.

It is said that Chaulssin was once a Drow city, but at some point in it's history (about 1,500 years ago) a small clan of Shadow Dragons conquered much of the city, and made slaves of it's population. These 'Wyrmshadows' dragons are said to have ruled the city of Chaulssin for many centuries, but in the end, their rule was brought down by their assorted collection of Half-Drow/Half-Dragon progeny. These progeny are believed to have considerable planar magics at their command.

Few of these descendents actually exist today, but a semi-secret organisation (House) of Drow Master assassins (called the Jaezred Chaulssin), regularly use the ruins as a base of operations, and their main stronghold.

It is also known that Chaulssin exists partially in the Plane of Shadow, much like the city of Sphur Urpa in Middle Earthroot. Much shadow-stuff finds it's way around the ruins, and deadly Shadow planes monsters hunt for prey here. It is not uncommon for entire quarters, or some sections of the ruined city to disappear for a period of time within the Plane of Shadow.

Well, that's it...

The Sage Posted - 09 Jan 2004 : 06:19:53
Yes I can, but first, where did you learn of this city to begin with?.
Shadowlord Posted - 09 Jan 2004 : 06:15:57
Hmmm, it seems as though what little materials that have been printed on Chaulssin were lost, or there were not that many to begin with.... Sage, if it isn't too inconvienient, can you post the brief mention in the Underdark tome? It may help my story.
The Sage Posted - 09 Jan 2004 : 06:13:46
Actually, I think that Chaulssin's brief write-up in the Underdark tome is the only full reference to this Drow city. Looking through most of my 2e FR materials, I found little. And there is nothing else written about it in any 3e tome.

Perhaps Faraer will have more...
