Does anyone know of any 2e sources for the Kir-lanans. I have very few 2e sourcebooks, mainly just those from the WOTC website, with a few others I picked up.

I never got around using them (except once in the WOTC Adventure City of the Spider Queen, and only because I was too lazy to rewrite the official encounter). However, I think there is a nice intriguing twist to them and I still consider throwing them at my PCs some time in the future. |

Yes, I'm pretty indifferent about these...things, myself. Just jumped-up gargoyles with an atheistic bent. |

The only time I can recall using them is the one featured in one of the adventures at the back of Silver Marches.
I'm fairly ambiguous about them generally; I've nothing really against them, but don't think they're as interesting as many other groups. |

Yeah, I was going to work them into a few small side treks in my campaign, and was seeing if I was missing anything.

I am working on a plot hook in my campaign where the Kir-lanans are in league with the Ethergaunts. The Kir-lanans are somewhat in awe of the
Ethergaunts, and think of them as kindred spirits. While the Ethergaunts find the Kir-lanans to be least objectionable of all the Material Plane inhabitants, and consider them adequate servitors.
So far the Kir-Lanans have attacked the shrines of both Malar and Tyr on successive nights in Suzail, slaying several of their clergy in mysterious sneak-attacks. The players have not taken the bait yet, and have since got tied up in other doings. Hopefully they will have opportunity to get back to that thread. |

Kir-lanans are new additions to FR.

To me they just become a variant of gargoyle and I end up using the original instead. I know the Time of Trouble and atheistic element associations with the Kir-Lanan can be used to make them different, but I never liked the idea much, so gargoyle's it is. |

I had an encounter with one set up as one was desecrating a shrine in a tomb in the City of the Dead in Waterdeep, with the whole "red herring" being the idea that the thing going bump in the night in the crypt was undead, when it was actually something going from tomb to tomb looking for religious shrines and destroying them. In the end, the PCs ended up doing something else, and they never followed up on that lead. |

I think they are 3ed. I seem to remember Richard Baker saying something about them on the Wizard page some time ago as an element they threw in the 3ed campaign setting to see if anyone would work with. That's actually the only time I can remember seeing them mentioned outside of the early source books so I don't think there has been to much interest in them.
To me personally there is something I just cant put my finger on that makes me dislike the Kir-Lanan thoroughly and I have never given them much thought until this question popped up. Has anyone used them in a campaign? |

I may be wrong, but I think the Kir-Lanan were new additions to 3rd edition. That having been said, I've been trying to come up with a good introduction to them for my players. I can picture that they would make fairly good villains with the right work put into what they might be after . . . |
