The answer's almost undoubtably 'no', but . . . y'know, just in case . . . .

Will any other Candlekeepers be showing up at the Maryland Renaissance Festival?

Obviously, only those who live in this part of the USA can come at all, so I doubt it. But it doesn't hurt to ask.

If I had the money I would love too, never heard of it but from the link you gave it looks to be interesting.

When you start to come to the states let me know too.I am far from being rich but I would welcome you into my humble home friend.
Maybe the three of us could find something interesting to get into.

Maybe we will have to talk to Marissa and see if she thinks we are fools.

I'd like that. I'm not going to say that the US is the best in the world (hey, I'm not really a globe-trotter, but I've lived in another country; if nothing else, the food's better in Italy) but we've got some good stuff here.

In fact, if you make it here, I'll show you around one of the best things in the United States, namely the Smithsonian Museums. (I live outside Washington, D.C., just to make things clearer.)

Global politics be damned. People can say what tey want, but there is no counrty in the world I would rather spend a year in than the states. Indeed, if the emigration policies weren't so stringent, i'd be looking at going there as we speak.

Hopefully, my wonderful company will see fit to send me there for some event, then I can finally say I have been there.

Im not looking forward to the 22 hour flight though...

Anyway yeah she thinks we are all fools because she says we are nerds lol. She plays white wolf and acts like a goody two-shoes around her mom and grandma. BAH! She is just a good actor, anyway yeah we are "nerds". Psssh. She is more "nerdy" then I am.

Yes,I can understand now maybe you use the word fool loosely but tis the same I guess since everyone has a name for those of us who love the realms.I myself have been penned strange, weird or a freak just for bringing "Forgotten Realms", maps and books to work to share with those interested and looked down on by others who say its evil.I can make a game of checkers evil if I wanted too.To me its good clean fun and more so than tv.Just as this Maryland Renaissance Festival is good clean fun and if I could go I would.

BAH SCREW TV IT BE THE DEVIL! Nah im kidding again. But no seriously. I dont watch much tv. I tend to use the computer a lot yes, But only because I role Play online a lot, play WC3-and frozen throne both of which take at least a half an hour to a full hour or more to beat one other player. I watch maybe ... a total of like 3 and a half hours of tv every night. 7 shows..... all anime. I enjoy my anime. Rissa just calls us fools cause she likes to pick on me. -_- ... I think its cause I pick on her lol. Just wait, I will show her a thing or two. ';..;'

And I thought I watched too much TV. I usually have only about two hours a night, and that's only during in-season. Of course, that's not counting the news, which I watch occasionally. (American news leaves much to be desired. Freedom of the press is one thing, but I really don't want all of that sensationalism . . . . Can't I just have the news? And why is that sports section so *&^% important?)

Wish I could have made it. Did anybody go to the DragonCon in Atlanta? It was dissapointing this year, no Forgotten Realms. Plenty of Ravenloft, though...

I agree with you completely. I know that here in Australia, in a one half-hour news slot, sports reporting will usually take upwards of about 13 minutes!. Regular news stories and weather reports take up the rest, not to mention making time for advertisements.

When will it stop! .

I got to Dragon*Con this year (I live just outside Atlanta, so its only a 20 minute commute!). I didn't find it dissapointing - I took the Elvish 101 and 201 classes (Tolkein's Quenya and Sindarin), got to see the Klingon Beauty Pagent (hilarious), and met Anne McCaffrey - not a bad year at all.

(albeit there wasn't much FR stuff)

I couldn't agree more.It seems we agree here 100%. Yet most people
enjoy what we find boring and redundant and they call us freaks for reading novels about the realms.

OK... *no need to beg*

(1) Elvish 101 was a large class - they had to turn people away - 250 people were in the class. Basically they discussed some history of Tolkeins's Elvish tounges, their use in the movies (it's accurate Sindarin)and gave web-resources for learning them. The website for 'The Elvish 101 guys' is www.frodocoita.com and the main page they find useful is www.ardalambion.com

(2) Elvish 201 was in smaller groups - you had your choice of Sindarin, Quenya or Tengwar(alphabet) - I chose Sindarin - we basically learned tha Sindarin is patterned after Welsh, a language where you change the vowel sounds to change meaning, rather than add suffixes (English examples: goose-geese, mouse-mice instead of house-houses,duck-ducks etc). We did some pronunciation work - stress is placed on the pentultimate syllable (next to last)

I was dissapointed at learning theory rather than vocabulary, but it was interesting nonetheless

(3) Ann McCaffrey - Wow! what a character (in a nice way) - she was witty and full of anecdotes. I learned that all her dragon's names end in -th because she thought dragons should lisp with their different mouth structure. Then she goes on to say how her theory was flawed, because her dragons communicate telepathically! Pern is basically her version of the way she wishes the world would be - to have a companion that will love you forever unconditionally (she has been through a divorce).

Ardalambion is a very good site for those interested in lingustics. I am, but unfortunately, I'm not good at it. In fact, I suck so bad there should be a vacuum cleaner sound effect when I try. ( okay, clumsy metaphor. )

Anyway, those who are interested, be sure to add it to your Bookmarks/Favorites. And if you've the mental stamina for it, take a look at that free course you can download. It's a doosy, but interesting.

Just a few notes to add about this site - in regards to the downloadable Quenya Course, make sure you get the appendix as well. There are a lot of useful tidbits in those additional files.

Also, one of the two articles on the Entish language seem to be missing. If anybody is interested in the second article, I'll see about emailing it out to you.

On a light hearted note:
I haven't heard of that language before - what is it called -Vacuumish? Sucker? *I hear the groans, but ignore them*

I am a language fan, comes from getting bitten by the travel-bug, and wanting to be able to say something in the native language of the country I'm in.

If I can answer a question or so about languages - let me know - I will try and help. I don't know what languages you've studied, but most languages are not difficult, just time consuming (because you have to train your brain to make sense out of something that used to sound like a Gibbering Mouther). Usually for me it's boredom or a feeling of a lack of progress that makes me stop, but I always go back!

One of the best 'methods' I've found is the Pimsleur system. It's only drawback is that it only teaches you to speak, not read and write, [and it isn't available for 'constructed' languages like Elvish and Drow (Where would you find a native speaker of these tounges in our world anyway?)]. It is pricey though.
