I'm pretty sure (even if I can't remember where I gathered this bit of Lore) that there is in the Realms a sort of extradimensional space full of artifacts that is gaining some sort of sentience... I think it is of Imaskari origin but I don't remember if I dreamed of it, or where I can find some reference to it!

Help!

The Imaskari demiplane known as the Celestial Nadir was not originally a storage place for artifacts, though it later seems to have become a dumping ground of sorts. It's featured in the novel Darkvision, but I haven't seen it mentioned elsewhere.

The Tomb of the Thaluud/Tomb Tapper Tomb is a demiplane connected to the Underdark of the Anauroch Desert, filled with magic items (and chunks of various fortresses) run by a mad Netherese demi-lich called "The Keeper of the Thaal". The tomb-tappers/thaluud are a "race" of constructs that hunt for magic items and return to the tomb. It's been featured in the 3.5 Underdark book (as a brief mention) and been featured (partially) in two adventures that I know of:
Anauroch: Empire of Shade (3.5)
•Dungeon 152: The Plague Tree

To my knowledge, neither is sentient nor approaching sapience. Fellow Scribes, any other help?

One usually has far more to fear from the soft-spoken wizard with a blade and well-worn boots than from the boisterous one in the ivory tower.

Yes! It was the Celestial Nadir I was looking for, thanks!

I think it is also mentioned in "lady of poison". I've read the book some years ago but maybe is there that I found the hint to its growing form of "awareness" or similar...

*EDIT*

SILLY, silly me p.140 of the new Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting... It was there that I found that hint!

Hmm... now this is a can of worms I can happily open... any speculations concerning connections between Larloch, the Celestial Nadir, the Thaal, and the Spellplague?

I haven't played or run the Anauroch adventure, and haven't read it in some time, so I don't recall the significance of the Thaal in the Spellplague prelude, but this seems like a delightfully tangled web of more than coincidence. If there's a new NDA on Larloch, there must be plans afoot for him, and a demiplane filled with artifacts seems like the kind of place Larloch could safely ride out the Spellplague in... any other thoughts?

Playing in the Realms since the Old Grey Box (1987)... and *still* having fun with material published before 2008, despite the NDA'd lore.

If it's comparable in power with non-magical abilities, it's not magic.

Didn't the Halruaan Wizard Omen also use a place in which he dumped dangerous artifacts?

Was this the same place?

(Omen was a comic book wizard that had not just a flying ship; but one that could instantly teleport to various locations because of an artifact aboard his ship)

The Old Grey Box and AD&D for me!

Omen used the Demiplane of Fear. In the comic, there was no reference to it having sentience -- in fact, there was really only the one reference, as I recall.

I tried to link the Celestial Nadir, Pandorym and the Spellplague here: http://forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=13272 maybe it can help.

I don't know if this answer your question but:

"That which you seek resides with the Children of Thaal. They have collected the chalice in their eternal quest for the Source of All Magic and have ensconced it within the Tomb of the Thaalud..."

The Terraseer.

He is talking about the Chalice of Amaunator, an artifact needed by the PCs to stop the corruption of the Quess Ar Teranthvar.
