I apollogize, and if Alaundo thinks this should be removed, he can go right ahead.

Some of you (Mournblade especially, possibly Sage as well) might remember that I have a long-distance girlfriend, so to speak. The point is, I love her, even though all the problems seem to have been conspiring to keep us from ever meeting in the real world. Lately, she's been ever more distant, and until an hour ago, I hadn't heard from her in what must have been two months.

Tonight, I found out why. She has cancer in her lymph nodes, and she didn't want to burden me with it.

Her name is Abby Shepherd, and mine is Matthew Bowman. Now that you have our names, I want to ask a favor. All of you who believe in prayer, please pray for her. If you don't believe in it, then please just send some positive thoughts her way.

Thank you.

Bookwyrm,
I couldn't honestly tell you that I could get a prayer through but I see nothing wrong with your request here with a life at stake.
I do wish you both well and will leave it at that.

Courage isn't the lack of fear but rather believing in and doing what you know is right even though fear is present.

Hey Mat my man. I know that upon this site we are very good enimies. Heh, we like to make fun of each other and such all the time. But, I know how it feels to be in your spot. I live in Mich and Rissa is as of right now in Cali, Im supposed to move there soon, but this is not why I have chosen to post this here. I have chosen to post this here because no I will not pray for her. I refuse to. Im agnostic. However, In the back of my mind I know that some for of higher being is indeed out there, it is my belief that it is only when someone believes in a higher being that that said higher being is given life. Perhaps not form, but indeed life, and to what ever being that someone has spawned out there, no to all of them. I shall beg for her well being for you.

Sorry to hear that, Bookwyrm

It must have been really difficult for you not hearing from her for so long if you feel that way towards her. It hurts so much more when you think that they dont want to worry you and just keep quiet about problems like that....its best to share a problem and have people there for you, to have the people you love around you at such times.

Well Met

This message will remain in the library, Bookwyrm, fear not.
I can merely say how sorry I am to hear of this, although I have met neither of you I do feel I KNOW you Bookwyrm and can imagine how you must feel at this news as I myself have been in a similar situation.

It is hard to know what to say in such circumstances, but please let Abby know that your word has reached others and that my thoughts and the thoughts of many other Scribes of Candlekeep are with her, im sure everyone here wishes her all the very best.

Bookwyrm, this is sad news indeed . Know that you have the deepest sympathies of the Sage of Perth (and a friend who has been in a very similar situation).

For your girl-friend, I wish only the grace and fortitude from whatever great powers govern this universe to shine down upon her, and see her through this troubled time.

May Tymora be with you both...

You're far from offending me. I'm glad that this hasn't been forgotten.

Unfortunately, I haven't heard anything more. She doesn't have a lot of time, and -- as I alluded to in my opener -- she's reluctant to give me any reason to 'worry' over her. She's kind of self-sacrificing. It gets annoying, because I'm the sort of person who likes constant contact and information flow. If you looked at my collection of letters (which you aren't allowed to ) I've sent her far more letters than she has. Alomst twice, in fact. That's also counting length, but I don't think that should count without a handicap. I'm a wordy guy, after all.

Anyway, the reason she didn't contact me for so long was because she didn't want me to worry. Which was a mistake, because it got me worrying about all kinds of things. My sister-in-law worries about my brother the same way; we both have too much imagination for anything else. The only difference is that he's a police officer, so she's actually got reminders on the news. Morning, daily, and evening news.

I guess she didn't want to lie to me, which is small comfort. It's a bit painful not being able to help out. But there's basically nothing I could do, even if I went there. Even if I had the money, I'd send it to her. She'd probably feel upset about it if I did that, though. She doesn't want to be a burden on anyone.

Of course, I could have gotten an email within the last 36 hours, but my Hotmail account is down. The whole reason I use it is so that I can have it available at any terminal. Now I can't get in at any.

But I don't really think that she'll send anything unless I pester her, which I don't want to do. Not only does she not have much time each day, she (for some strange reason) thinks it's better not to worry me. Maybe she wants me to be more distant if it actually becomes fatal. I hope not, on both accounts.

I am sorry the way things have turned out for you. My mother had cancer not too long ago so you have my sympathies. Its going to be very hard at first so don't give up.

Trafaldi, and others interested: I just heard from Abby this afternoon. She's doing better; she was in a good mood today (I talked to her on the phone). She had surgery to remove a tumor in her groin recently, and no complications resulted, so it's completely gone. She still has others, but it seems that was the worst one.

She's also getting over the 'flu, so she missed out on some work last week. Seems it was because of work, too -- she had a job at a local haunted house. She got to dress up to roam the woods at night, chasing bottle-blond female visitors with a chainsaw. Sounded like a real frustration-relieving job.

Thank you all for your support, folks. Things seem to be looking up.
