They thought it would sound cool, like Halruaa (did not have much impact too) exploding. They can't have the Blood War and the Dawn War, it'd be confusing.

Blood War had an important role in Ascalhorn. That's the only place I can remember, and when destroying the Magical Chessmen artifact. Mentioned in novels like Tymora's Luck and Resurrection.

I'd love it if WotC makes a series that details more how Asmodeus ends the war.

Every beginning has an end.

I don't think it's over so much as Asmodeus deems himself to have won it, or at least decisively thrashed the tanar'ri and ejected them from the astral, down deep into the Elemental Chaos.

Ejected the infinite layers of the Abyss, into the Elemental Chaos?

That's a pretty large fish to stuff into a pretty that mouth. It would make more sense to be able to eject the Nine Hells away from the Abyss.

And it might be more difficult for demons now to replenish their troops as there may be problems with procuring petitioners due to their loss of their connection with the Astral.

I thought that demons were birthed from the chaos of the abyss itself. The main feature of demons is that there is an endless supply of them.

Stem the Tide Takes place in Mistledale.
Dark Curtains - Takes place in the Savage North, starting in Nesmé. I wrapped my campaign into the Hoard of the Dragon Queen, but it takes place in 1372 DR.

Currently many of them are, with others born via conventional breeding, and others formed from discrete mortal souls. The tanar'ri were first created by the obyriths (possibly with Pale Night being the first to do so), and the obyriths themselves were first created and seeded into the Abyss by the baernaloths (the yugoloth progenitors).
