A day long feared by many is coming... Next May, a Miniature Giant Space Hamster will enter the world!  
Mrs. Giant Space Hamster and I are quite stoked, and my parents are happy that they'll finally have a local grandbaby.
Oddly, betwixt me wife and I, I'm the one with all the baby experience. My kid brother (now a Marine!) was born when I was 16, so I've done all the baby stuff except the midnight feedings. That part doesn't concern me... Being a good daddy, now that's another story! 
It'll be a while before we can find out the gender -- we just got official confirmation of the pregnancy today. A lot of friends and family are thinking we'll have a girl, but I think the odds are against it -- there hasn't been a girl born into my family in over 100 years. We shall see. As long as it's healthy and happy, I'll be happy. 
If it's a boy, I'll make sure he's well trained in all aspects of being a Trickster. Being a male in my family guarantees he'd be a smartass! If it's a little girl, she'll have me wrapped around her finger by the time she's walking, if not sooner. I'm cool with that!
Gotta say, though -- the prospect of buying toys for a little girl is a bit daunting. I can buy toys for a boy, that's easy. Little girls are another story! It'll be weird buying toys for someone other than myself, though!

And the toys for either sex are easy. You just buy stuff YOU want to play with ("It's for my kid, I swear!") until they are old enough to say "Want!" as you're walking through Target.  |

I hope Candlekeep continues to be the friendly forum of fellow Realms-lovers that it has always been, as we all go through this together. If you don’t want to move to the “new” Realms, that doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with either you or the “old” Realms. Goodness knows Candlekeep, and the hearts of its scribes, are both big enough to accommodate both. If we want them to be.
(Strikes dramatic pose, raises sword to gleam in the sunset, and hopes breeches won’t fall down.)
Enough for now. The Realms lives! I have spoken! Ale and light wines half price, served by a smiling Storm Silverhand fetchingly clad in thigh-high boots and naught else! Ahem . .

Regularly reading from the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting by way of a bedtime story will make sure you won't have that problem for long! At age 2 he or she will ask for a spiffy Manshoon action figure and Seldarine minis, I'm sure of it. |

Well, I've never really encountered much of a problem with that. Little Narnra has found her own niche for toys -- whether they be classic "little girl" dolls or, for example, "alien" monsters like my Neon Genesis Evangelion stuff, or my Ben Reilly "Scarlet Spider" classic action figurine. She loves and plays with them all. In fact, we'll often visit "both sides" of the toy store shelves -- in other words, boys and girls toys -- when she's in the mood for something new. And practically everything I own, toy-wise, has been handled at least once by her gentle hands.
Strangely, though, she's taken an intense liking to my extensive Cthulhu-plush collection. *shudder* |

Heh... Did I forget to mention the story of my last visit to the FLGS?
I went in just to see if they had some Shadowrun books. As I'm going through the shelves, a gentleman with two daughters (ages 5 & 8, I believe) walks by saying "No <name of youngest>, we can't buy a plushie today."
And the youngest responds in the sweetest voice ever, "But Cthulhu's getting loooonely!!"
Do me a favor, fellow scribes. If you find out Cthulhu is getting lonely, warn me? I have precious little sanity left... |

No Realms-naming contests, here. We're having a little boy, and he'll be named after my dad -- who was named after his own grandfather, who he was virtually identical to.
Kind of odd how it worked out -- we told my dad on his birthday that he was going to be a grandfather, and we told him on my birthday that the little guy will be named after him! That wasn't planned, it was just how it worked out -- his birthday was when we found out, and my birthday was the first time we saw my parents after determining the gender. |

Mrs. Giant Space Hamster tells me she timed it that way, so she could have a Happy Mother's Day present.
The delivery was smooth and easy... The nurse was actually surprised at how quickly it went, and called it textbook perfect. From when her water broke until the little guy was in her arms was 9 hours, 45 minutes.
8 pounds, 1.4 ounces, 21 inches long -- which surprises everyone, because me wife is a tiny little thing. I figured he'd be 8 pounds, though -- my mother was smaller, and I was well over eight pounds, and both of my half-brothers were more than eight pounds.
It was still a long day, but we're all healthy and happy. |

| Ah, this makes me remember my own little one's birth. Not that there was much to remember- I was completely paralyzed and numbed by two epidurals, and it was a C-section. The whole thing took less than three hours. Two and a half from the time I got the drugs to when they wheeled me into the Or for the C-section, and less than ten minutes later, she was out. With only a single cry, too. She was such a quiet baby- now they can't get her to shut up, and she's only three and a half! |
