The lore in 2e was close enough in time and nature to be usable in a world that did not have and would never have a Time of Troubles, though as novel-driven RSEs kept happening the useful lore content started going down. 3e continued the downward trend in usable lore, but I'd switched to 3.x rules, so it was mechanically useful. 4e Realms as published was so seriously divorced from the setting and game mechanics I play that it might as well have been GURPS Banestorm. Maybe there's some useful stuff on DDI, but I never subscribed; it seemed pretty clear to me that Wizards of the Coast no longer had any interest in publishing material for my Realms game, and there wasn't any other product I was interested in.
I don't see anything in this thread that would change my mind. An article on incorporating "Abeir and the Dawn Titans" is useless with a world where Abeir is nothing more than part of the full name of a planet and where the Dawn Titans never existed.
This has turned into another fanboy vs grognard argument, which isn't at all what I wanted. Like I said in the first post, it's been done to death. If a mod could please lock the scroll, that'd be great.
