Such a sad news.
Aftershocks and tsunamies still rage at this point of time...
I could only watch and pray.
I hope and pray that other countries, including ours, will be spared. Many times in the past when an earthquake hit Japan, another one [albeit smaller in magnitude] hit the Philippines and Indonesia. Hopefully, this time it would not be the case.

| There is a Tsunami watch warning in effect from Alaska down to Mexico. Hawaii got hit with a small quake as well. Hope we don't get more needless deaths from this massive occurence. |

I'm very picky about who it comes to that I care if they're suffering or not. Take Africa for example:
I wouldn't care if most of that continent sank to the bottom of the ocen.
I have very extensive reasons for thnkong the way I do, which would take too long to type her wit this blasted nook. |

Seriously, we're debating the appropriate times for sympathy and which situations warrant it and which don't? 
Please, folks, let's concentrate on more important matters, like sending positive thoughts to all those afflicted by this -- and any other -- great tragedy.

Its ok...it is hard to watch actually.
Two of them have had levels of radiation exceeding legal limits; and one is facing partial meltdown...but three others are at risk for other reasons; I'm just not sure what those reasons are.
As for political things, this is one of the worst things that can happen in Asia. If Japan is seen as increasingly weak, then (as a firm U.S. ally) the U.S. is seen as weak...Obama needs to be all over this with help...

| thank you too everyone that posted on this topic. Having lived in japan for two years in the navy, I met my wife who is japanese. My inlaws were stuck in tokyo for 3 days before they could get home. When they arrived home the interior of there house was deystroyed. All of my wifes family is ok, thank god. And our friends are ok as well. I really appreciate the support all of you have shown here to those in japan. |

The tsunami hit the Americas, though it was much diminished and caused little damage. They say we'll experience some awful wet weather systems over the next few weeks/months as a consequence (at least where I live), though of course this will be nothing compared to what Asia will endure.
[Edit: Was there much tsunami damage in Australia?]
The people I've spoken to (who were in Japan during the quake) had a lot of surprised praise for the Japanese ... no opportunistic looting or secondary social chaos, although Japanese society suffered severe disruption they are (as a people) putting aside their problems to selflessly help their fellows. Not the sort of social harmony often seen in western civilization. |

I'll be honest, one of my first responces after hearing about the nuke plants was that this is all the more reason to oppose nuclear energy... and then that idea was further strengthened by information on how those power plants function and why exactly they always place them so precariously in the water... good gods, those things use almost as much energy as they provide! and way more if they have to shut down, which is horrible because then they aren't PRODUCING any energy to make up for all of it that they are using to try to prevent a meltdown! >.<
those footage tapes were frightening to watch... I cried. I'm so glad I live in Florida. the worste I had to deal with in my life were a couple of tornadoes (which are actually pretty ****ing scarey). usually it;s just Hurricanes or Fog. maybe hail or frost if it gets real bad. it's realy nothing to freak about.
I've sent out a Prayer Tag, posted a little something about it on a forum on another network, and my Mistress bought me a couple of Relief Donation items from a Cash Shop on that site. it ain't much, but I hope ding our part makes a difference...

why is it that only global threats or natural disasters bring humanity any sense of international solidarity? not even global, just international. if I were God, I wouldn't listen to the prayers either at this point. it's like Forgiving the same people for the same thing hundreds of thousands of times over the course of a million or so years. it kinda gets old when you already know they are gonna forget all about it next year and go right back to their old ways.... |

| Yokohama was not hit veery badly just a lot of structural damage. Ishcawacho/china town and the surrounding area took the brunt of the structure damage, this just so happens to be where my father in law lives.its a miracle that they have only lost 10,000 people. in a country with as many people as the US crammed onto an island the size of california you would think that the death toll would be much higher, but japan is no stranger to tsunami's, or earthquakes and they were ready for this one despite what people might think. my wife kept telling me overe and over, "we knew this was going to happen" "people kept saying this would happen soon". i'm just thankful that they were so prepared and minimized the loss of life. |

| indeed. huzzah for smart folks. they may be weird with there meaningless suffixes and their unnessesary technology, not to mention their strange snacks that hardly anyone actually likes, including themselves, but leastways they know how to handle a devastating natural disaster and litterally save hundrds of thousands of lives. |
