I wondered what vices do each of Fearuns races practise culturally.
We all know the more obvious ones; for dwarves for example its strong drink and being greedy is a culturally ingrained by having a deity like Abbathor. Elves have elverquist and are known to be haughty by having a goddes of beauty like Hanali and to be fey tricksters with a deity like Erevan. Gnomes have a pranksterish streak aswell represented in their entier pantheon, but have a dark streak with Urdlen representing bloodlust. Hin are kleptomaniacs and love the pipeweed...
Are there any other (fearunian) drugs, behaviours or sins that would be especially tied to a racial culture?

Dwarves: axe use, strong drink, pipe tobacco, crafting intricate items from metal/stone, a heavily meat laden diet, music that is heavy on percussion instruments, playing 'hammer and anvil' with their lovers. Stoic nature.
For dwarven berserkers, (Battle Ragers) they imbibe 'Gut Shaker' a combo of fermented goats milk and herbs that blocks reception of pain receptors and induces a psychotic rage.
Elves: long bow use (even as a sport), botany, understand nature and how the woodland wilds ecology works. A comfort level with recreational magic.
Gnomes: Fondness of puzzles and intricate machinery. Mutual respect for others. like hin prefer to argue rather than physically fight. Extroverted personalities.
Halflings: Fondness of sweets, hedonistic (creature comforts), Layed back. |

Elves in the Realms seem to be among the most racist beings. some folks say it's the Dwarves, with their clannishness and their secreiveness, but Greed and Security donot equal Racism. they don't go about proclaiming to be the best race, they just have understandable reasons for their xenophobia. Elves on the other side have been the most proud, haughty, vain, and self-righteous race of the Realms.
I love'em both though! XD
Hin are opportunists by nature, but after that they very. it isn't a racial solid thing whether they are hard-working competitive businessmen, or kleptomaniacal lazy gluttons. aye, their are cultural tendencies toward both in that race, but I've seen the arguments go on and on with one side claiming that almost ALL Hin are one and the other side saying it's teh other.
Orcs are not so much Totalitarian, they simply don't have the capacity for that on a racial level. individuals can certain aspire to it, and it's written in their most sacred religion, but it is not something they are called to as a race. quite the opposite in fact. ignorance and brutishness tend to get in the way of that. |

to be fair, I was only like, 16 when I started reading those.. which, actually isn't all THAT much of a child when I think about it, but I was pretty damn naive. anywho, I still see the similarities.
P.S. ~ I live in America too. I admit it's paradise compared to most of the world, but it's still got it's faults and I'm not gonna ignore that fact just because other places are worse. |

Elves and envy... I really like that one. Its the basis for all the racially oriented displeasure they voice.
With elves I can see some specimens (escpecially elven wine-makers) would like to munch alcoholic berries, or the fruits from aged trees that still bear fermented fruit in the late summer, creating certain elven homesteads with permanently drunken elves.
I think drow as a race have nearly no qualms with most of the bad habits of the common people, so they have the most extensive list of readily available drugs of all races {the ones in Lords of Darkness two are created from underdark mushrooms!). I know my human PC once visited a bar in Menzoberranzan and left the lower floor heavily sedated from all the strange beverages and smokes he was offered.
Anyone know how Feydust would be collected? I think that could also be a highly sought after commodity for gnomes, hin and elves who like mischief. Using it might even have some addictive qualities.
____
Dwarves are likely to have some kind of root or mushroom that they would like to slowly ingest while they take the rare rest they deserve. Some form of chewing tobacco is highly likely, as I can see the image of a dwarf constantly chewing and spitting dark phlegm comes so naturally to me it must be true.
I also think some dwarves might have an unprecedented love for gems that borders of insanity. I can see some really bad blood setting in, between two contesting clans of a gem filled earthlayer. Where only one of the two clans are entitled to its ownership (being the first is likely the only valid reason in dwarven eyes) the other will go to great lengths in securing at least a part of the vein for themselves by seperating it from their neighbours by immense tunnels and carved caves.
____
The Shades and most of the netherese people might take a liking to habitually ingesting panaeolo, which enhances the imbibers connection to the weave but is highly damaging to the ego after its effects fade. This might stimulate constant use.
It might be interesting if Shades had some sort of substance they craved thats made from shadowstuff. Perhaps a gloomy plant/ rare flower from the plane of shadows has some sort of soothing effect on a shades psychology when he resides too long in the bright Prime.
____
Liquid pain (BoVD) is a highly sought after drug for outsiders. Would this include aasimar? It might be very interesting to roleplay a darkly tainted, vindictive aasimar addicted to such a substance, having mastered a single vile spell to collect it from his mostly evil enemies.
Certain Outsiders are driven almost exclusively by vices, especially the fiendish races. Its their essence, vital for their physiology and psychology.

Likely. Though the Plane of Shadow for them is just one step away. So if they really want to experience some sort of soothing effect, they can simply shadow walk to the PoS. The Shadavor might not need it, as their own city is cloaked in shadowstuff that no amount of sunlight could pierce. |

Thri-kreen would agree with you partly. They are the most sought after meal to eat in their society. Num, num. Tasty elf!
I know most tall races treat most gnomes like they are children, which gnomes find annoying - if not insulting.
Orcs. I think that says it all about them, but just for the record - anything.
Genasi - all of them are either incredibly arrogant, stubborn, or both.
I'm not sure if I am misremembering this or not, but I thought Mind Flayers gave their slaves some sort of drug that helped keep their slaves/thralls more compliant to their rule. I think it made its way up to the surface realm as a drug. Basically, it has like a pleasing effect upon the person's mind and lessens their will to resist, but gives them some added benefits I can't remember off the top of my head.
I think I read it in the Lord of Darkness, but I'm not for certain. Sadly I think that is a book buried way, way back somewhere. If anyone could either back me up or correct me on the matter that I'd be most thankful.
