So, this might be a question only Markustay would delve this deep into, but here goes.
Where on the 3E map is the Winterspear Valley? I am thinking it's the gap between "mountains" on the map, just a little above Hulburg that heads back to the Galena Mountains. This should be where Aesperus' keep ends up being.
His Keep is noted with the following landmarks in Realms of the Dead.
-In the Highfells -The wailing lower is in the foothills. -The entrance to the valley is several miles up the river.

The answer to this turned out to be on the 4E map. It appears to be about 40 miles north of Hulburg, taking a right branch off the Glister Road. |

Map
I didn't post that, so my apologies if whoever posted it did so illegally - it may have been in the closed-content portion of the DDi. It only took me about a minute to find (and it wasn't even the one I was really looking for - I was looking for the one that came with the FREE article on Thar by Rich Baker). |

Ha, yeah I just pasted that one into one note below the Thar one. The special challenge about running a 1351 game in this area is that most if not all of the info is 6 to 120 years in the future. So, I have to research everything and try to figure how long it's been whatever way it is. |

On a side note, the quivering forest is very aptly named. I know it's grown by magic, but I swear that treeline moves everytime the make a map. |

The Quivering Forest is constantly subject to aggressive logging practices. |

Here is Rich's article complete with map. Tribes of Thar |

Personally, for game purposes, I would just assume most of the stuff on the 4e map is there in the 3e era. That region was never well-documented, and in your own campaign it doesn't really matter if you bend FR canon a bit. We have never had that nice a map of that area in earlier editions.
As I have said several times in the past, despite my dislike of the sweeping changes to the setting, I find many of the changes to be more useful (to a DM) then the original, pre-Spellplague version.
For instance, new Hulburg is far more useful then its predecessor, so why not use it? Your timeline doesn't have to sync-up to the canon one. |

Yeah, that 4E map is simply gorgeous, and it includes just about every landmark I could find from earlier editions as well.
Mike Schley is a master at his craft, and I eagerly await his next map--which if I'm not mistaken will be the northern half of the Moonshae Isles. |
