We are using a sort of 2.5 gestalt rules and one of the PC's should have died. Instead I said he had a near death experience because of the psion's Astral Construct form he was in. He returned changed but I now need to decide the details. What do you think, would the Astral Construct work in gestalt with the Summoner's (synthesist archetype) Eidolon? It appears fun but I'm not sure if it will break the game at the higher levels. I don't plan to get to them for at least a year or two, he could die again tough.

It seeems to work, but I only quick-checked it at levels 5,10, 15 and 20. The biggest potential problems would come in with it being buffed by and working with the abilities of the other characters in the party, and I have no way to predict those.
My best advice is to go ahead with it, but warn the player concerned that you reserve the right to change how things work at a later date. My players have always been willing to work with that provision, and surprisingly, I find I have to make very few changes. |

Thanks for the advice, we do have an agreement about the rules that turn the PC's overpowered. No problems with that, and he liked the story about the construct that is built to imitate the outsiders from Axis. Mechanically the astral construct destroys the eidolon, powerful even for gestalt. I think it will be a permanent form, bipedal, no natural attacks and the multiattack. Construct traits broken down, for example light fortification for 4 evolution points, bonuses to saves instead of immunities, and so on. The Astral construct menu needs more work, for example blindsight is in the menu C, eidolon has it for 3 points. Abilities like Extreme Deflection are probably worth 10 evolution points.

We agreed finally on an axiomatic construct eidolon. Tinkering with the evoloutions I decided to allow these. He has 5 points for now.
1 point:
Improved Natural Armor Skilled - like the axiomites Resistance - lightning Unnatural Aura Metal Skin - bronze, this is from Advanced Options pdf I found Luminescence - change to imitate the axiomite swarm Mimicry Reach? Sprint or Celerity? - to function like the psionic power burst Buff
2 points:
Deflection (Ex) - +1 deflection bonus to AC Flight (Su) - thinking to restrict these to move actions for the first 2 points Ability Increase - physical Immunity - electricity Smite - only chaos Tremorsense ? Camouflage Undead Appearance - changed to Construct Appearance, negative energy changed to spells that affect objects Pounce? - if he has the swarm form
3 points:
Fast Healing - changes to Rapid Repair of the temporary hit points Muscle (Ex) - need to change the name, too organic Damage Reduction - chaotic Blindsense
4 points:
Blindsight - would be cooler as Touchsight Swarm Appearance - the most difficult part, it has too many benefits Large? Spell Resistance Dimension Slide - more points? No Breath
For the gestalt comparing the eidolon and the astral construct I think these bouses:
+2 Str, -2 Dex +2 natural armor free half of the the construct appearance, touchsight, DR and large evolution, -1 to dimension slide and rapid repair, and free first Buff evolution
Also need to check the Oathbound Seven pdf for more options. |
