So I am sitting here bored, watching The Goonies with my two younger boys (who have never seen it), and I just realized, it's a Dungeon-crawl!

Okay... I'm a bit slow... LOL

Couple of things I noticed - Sloth looks a lot like Shrek, and the lead (Goonie) is played by Sean Astin - the same dude who played Sam in LotR. Some other famous peeps are in there, but most of the kids fell into obscurity (for the most part - they all did a couple of other things). Josh Brolin played the older brother character, and all the 'bad guys' went on to do other things (the one brother is played by Joe Pantoliano, the jerk in The Matrix).

Its weird looking back at old movies and seeing who made it and who didn't. Its also fun to watch the really bad stereo-types and the cheesy special effects (the falling boulders are especially atrocious). Thank Goodness for CGI.

Still, my boys enjoyed it, and its a good romp even if dated.

Sloth could be an ogre in your dungeon-crawl ;)

Watched it myself shortly ago, I'll say I'm 29 years old I haven't ever seen it. Found it quite amusing, and the effects weren't that bad, I prefer that boulders falling than the new Star Wars trilogy effects tbh. My gf, who is a huge fan of that movie, didn't notice the starring was Sean astin until I told her

I love that movie. I can probably quote the dialog from start to finish, though I've never gone more than 40 minutes or so without being stopped.

I missed it

I can remember going to the cinema to see it when I was young and it was first released.

It may seem a bit dated but the story is still far superior to the rubbish that's often inflicted on us nowadays

I think i'm gonna do the Truffle Shuffle

Did this movie come out before or after the term "One Eyed Willy" became perverted??

If I am not mistaken, I think the movie coined it first. Of course, it may just have been the first time I heard it (I heard the 'one-eyed' part, but it was previously coupled with the suffix 'wonder worm').

NOT to be confused with the Mongolian Death Worm.

Still, the nerd w/Inhaler and the tech-savy Oriental kid are just SO 80's cliche' its funny.

I remember after first seeing it, every time there was a lull in the conversation when my friends and I were hanging-out, I would belt out a loud "Rocky.... ROAD!!!" while making a stupid face, and everyone would laugh. I must have used that for about 3 years before it got old.

Back around that time, we would all meet-up at the local beach and play D&D (without rules) for hours, and then listen to the midnight broadcast of Dr. Dimento. It was just one of those silly little things that didn't mean much at the time, but looking back it was probably one of the happiest times of my life. Dumb, I know, but it was so simple and 'pure'... no drama, no stupid RW crap to deal with yet... just chillin' with good friends, enjoying a few beers and other things I loved.

That why I like to watch movies now that I first seen in the theater, because it takes me back to those days, and the people I was with when I saw them.

Nostalgia is a beautiful thing. I feel the same way about my first D&D sessions.

Heh, we were watching the The Fellowship of the Ring at the movies the first night it came out (I had never even heard of Tolkien or the books before the movies, go figure) and at the end, Samwise (played by Sean Austin) is trying to swim to Frodo on the boat and Frodo says "I'm going alone Sam." and Sam says "Of course you are, and I'm going with you!" just then someone screams in the theater "Goonies never say Die!!".....hilarious.
