I don't care about Drizzt. Never did. I didn't read the book because of him. In fact, I might have finished it had he not been there. |

So you haven't read any of the other Drizzt novels then? How can you not care if you didn't try the first ones |

Fighters as MAIN characters usually bore me. And swordplay bores me even more. I should have learned my lesson and not bothered reading that book. |

Ah, but Drizzt is a ranger. Ok, he used to be a fighter, but anyways yeah I see your point. He does specialize in swordplay, and if that turns you off, you won't enjoy the rest of the series. |

The first two ras trilogies are by far the best. |

I finished Elminster Must Die (can't wait for the next one) and now it's on to trying to finish the last 4 Drizzt books starting with The Orc King.
Dennis, you would probably like Robillard's character in the other books as well as that is pretty much his attitude throughout. Unfortunately he isn't used that often. If you were at all interested in fighters, I would say check out some of the books that heavily involve Jarlaxle. I may not care for some of Salvatore's characters, but Jarlaxle is proof that he can write very interesting characters. |

Eh? Didn't I just say I'm not interested in fighters at all?
Anyway, the fact that I did not yet throw the book goes to say that I might resume reading it sometime in the near or far future... You see, those books that I abhor, I immediately throw away. |

I'm not interested in Drizzt. I'm reading the novel because of Robillard and the Arcane Brotherhood. Unfortunately, those (ridiculous) Drizzt fighting scenes with the devils discouraged me, among many other things. I read on...but the story really doesn't grab me that much, and I feel like I'm just wasting my time just to get to those Arcane Brotherhood and/or Robillard scenes. So I stopped at Chapter 5. I may or may not resume reading... Only Ao knows when.
To be fair though, I wouldn't consider that novel in the top 10 drizzt novels.

I don't know why (perhaps RAS's guardian angel whispered something when I was asleep last night) but I suddenly find myself reading The Pirate King. And I feel like I'm going to finish it, despite my previous scruples. |

Re-reading the "Return of the Archwizards" trilogy -- amongst about twenty-or-so-other-books -- for research into Shade-musical practices, that will eventually amount to something of an addition to a project you're all likely familiar with by now, and that I've been working on for Candlekeep. |

Yeah, it's a little something Ed and I had been secretly chatting about late last year. The original plan called for my preview to be released around mid-January. But the amount of time that I wanted to devote to the project, kinda soured somewhat.
Now though, I've had some further moments to brush the dust off the project, and get my notes together.
More to be revealed... eventually! |

This might sound strange coming from Richard's fan...But I honestly find Whisper of Venom disappointing...I'm stuck in that part where Tchazzar expressed his desire to create a knightly order, and have no plan to finish it...
I've just read two disappointing novels in a row. Not a good sign. I'm taking a break from the Realms. |

I think you would enjoy find the book interesting, Allistair, since you're fond of dragonborn--- they have a lot of screen time, much more than Aoth's. I on the other hand find them boring, which adds to the disappointment. Too many battles, too little story. It's like I'm watching a poorly done anime.

I'm about halfway through. Aoth looks like something out of Captain Power http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Power_and_the_Soldiers_of_the_Future....okay maybe not, but looking at it, it came to mind...

Not directly or intentionally, but some people hold your opinion in high regard and make decisions based on it. |

Which is part of why I go out of my way to encourage people to decide for themselves, or why I oft point out that some books that I very much dislike were rather enjoyed by others.
And there's at least one series I disliked but haven't really said much about, and that's a trend I intend to continue. |
