My PCs ran into an Extaminaar agent during their last adventure that had begun working at the Adderposts in Battledale, trying to find out about the snake cult for his masters. The PCs were suppose to find out about his true nature, find his notebook on other visitors to Battledale, and foil a Maulagrym plot after they fought the Extaminaar that they exposed.
The problem is, one of the PCs ended up tailing the agent, and finally confronting him, then assumed that his information gathering was for information brokering, and paid the extaminaar for the secrets that he came up with on several travellers, including the Maulagrym plot that they were suppose to find out about.
But that left the extaminaar alone, still working at the Adderposts. What I am wondering is what would the cult do if he gets too close? Would he try to join the cult, and how much effort would it take for him to get ingratiated into the cult hierarchy. Orignally, had the PCs spoken to the proprietor, he would have hinted that the extaminaar was overly interested in the "old stories" about a snake cult and basically sell out the extaminaar to keep anyone from looking at their activities.
So what ideas to you have for this unexpectedly still breathing extaminaar agent?

| I can't say if the PC would try to join the cult (or if the agent would confirm any cult's existence), but consider the attitudes of the beings involved: they not only think non-scalykind are lesser, they actively seek to destroy them. I'd bet that the extaminaar agent would try to use the PC, with the secondary benefit of getting this overly curious guy AWAY from him: why not send him on any dangerous mission that the agent's been leery of doing himself - like, say, going into a swamp to find an artifact that's very likely in a black dragon's horde OR buried under some seriously annoyed swampy guardians OR whose guardians are good and would spot an extaminaar immediately? |

| Actually, the extaminaar is the outsider that I was wondering about his ability or inclination to join the snake cult in Battledale. The cult is actually a cult to Talona, and its head is a spirit naga that lives in the caves beneath the Adderposts. All of the cultists that work with the naga are human, however, so the extaminaar would stand out, if they found out what he was, and I think the Naga would be leery of Yuan-ti involvement. |

Oh, my bad, I'm sorry, I must've forgotten to drop the penny to operate my brain.
Seems that the extaminaar would be exposing himself to too much risk to join the snake cult. Is there a way for the agent to charm/dominate one of the human cultists OR to find a unintelligent peasant and work that human into the cult? |

| That wouldn't be too hard since he is a 12th level sorcerer . . . somehow I like the irony of an agent of the Yuan-ti acting agaist a Naga, all with the PCs not being fond of either. I just need a hook to make them invested in it, and a plot thread for the extaminaar to follow. Had they killed the extaminaar, I was going to have them later on just find the cult according to the Adderposts adventure in Serpent Kingdoms, but I was hoping they wouldn't quite press that hard, since they are 9th/8th/8th in levels. |

Yeah, but the Spirit Naga might not be too keen on his magicked disguises, and they are quite mean. I don't think the Naga would like the Yuan-ti outsider at all, as they have that strict hierarchy. The only other option is that if the Spirit Naga could geas him to complete some kind of quest to prove his loyalty, which, of course, he would not submit to.
