Wulgar Browniefriend of Hillsafar Hall
Lawful Good (Clanggedin) shield dwarf male fighter 9th level
Wulgar Browniefriend of Hillsafar Hall is a dwarf that stands about four feet nine inches tall. He wears battered but well maintainanced half plate armor and a huge shield, and almost always has a glittering dwarven waraxe of ancient design in his right hand. Wulgar has light brown skin, dark brown hair, and grey eyes. He is a young dwarf, but with a full braided beard.
Wulgar was in training with the dwarven defender Thoror Irondelver to learn the skills of this vaunted dwarven profession, but ended up leaving Hillsafar Hall in disgrace when he was found in bath with a councilman's daughter, dispite the fact that the situation was a misunderdanding. Wulgar's pride was too great to let him stay, and so he left to find his fortune and prove himself as a hero before returning to his clan.
Wulgar signed on as a caravan guard helping to aid shipments travelling from Damara out to the Heartlands. Eventually Wulgar ended up in Arabel, in Cormyr, and met a young cleric of Helm, Meriden Greystag, at the Shrine of He Who Watches Over Travellers. Meriden and Wulgar enjoyed one another's company, and became friends, and Meriden began petitioning his superiors to allow him to scout out new locations for temples in order to allow him to adventure with his new friend.
Before finding out if Meriden could travel with him, the troubles associated with the Devil Dragon Nalavara began, and Wulgar was expected to aid in the defence of trade roads in Cormyr. Eventually, as hordes of orcs closed in on Arabel, Wulgar fell back to the city with the other guards he worked with, and helped to defend the city, while Meriden worked as a combat medic for the defenders of Arabel.
Meriden and Wulgar ended up guarding a group that evacuated Arabel via the War Wizards portal to Suzail, and soon after, the war ended. The two travelled back to Arabel, but the shrine of He Who Watches Over Travellers was gone, so they moved on to the Altar of Shields in Tilverton. Meridin's supervisors granted him permission to scout out new locations for a temple to Helm in the Dalelands, and the pair travelled to Mistledale.
On the path to Mistledale, the two aided an old ranger who was beset by goblins, and the ranger granted Wulgar a specially trained dog, whom the dwarf later named Arsebiter, after his flanking manuver performed on a gnoll archer.
Wulgar eventually developed a grudging friendship with the merchant Multhimor, the two falling into an insult contest each time the dwarf walked into the shop. Wulgar also came to enjoy disrupting the experiments of Almaes the gnomish alchemist.
Wulgar also developed a strange relationship with the captured drow wizard Kezzit. Wulgar and Meriden rescued Haresk Malorn's youngest daughter from the Vhearunite drow, and while he was incarcerated in the Mistledale Lancer's barracks, Wulgar would often go to the barracks and play Sava with the captured drow.
Wulgar was rather popular with the halflings that worked at the Velvet Veil, though he never fully enganged them in their trade. Wulgar also earned the title Browniefriend by rescuing the brownie sorcerer Raeilvinorn from a quickling, a title that he surprisingly took great pride in.
Eventually after Meriden and Wulgar had managed to begin to make a name for themselves, Brongulf Ironfurrow, a dwarven councilmember from the town of Glen, sent for Wulgar to talk to this dwarven hero. In reality, Brongulf was trying to marry off his daughter, who apparently possesed, to someone that did not know of her affliction. During this time, Wulgar and Meriden became friends with Brongulf's bodyguard Chorn Stoneturner, and adventured with him to explore the Low Road, an entrace to the Underdark that is secretly connected to Glen. They also manage to learn about the dragon egg sales business from Chorn while drinking with him.
Eventually Wulgar brings back an arumvorax hide and decided to present it to Brongulf's daughter, Yrend. At this time, they found out that Brongulf's daughter was being possesed by a duergar psion whose body was trapped within the Underdark. Wulgar had become quite fond of Yrend, a studious, book smart you female dwarf, and eagarly volunteered to seek out the body of the Duergar so that the psion could return to her original body.
Eventually Wulgar and his allies managed to defeat a group of Duergar warriors seeking out the psions body, and managed to bring the body back to Glen, thus freeing Yrend of her possesion. Wulgar then reaffirmed his desire to mary Yrend, but still wanted to have a bit more time to make his fortune.
Wulgar and Meriden defended the honor of a catfolk dancer from the Velvet Veil, Braelithra, from the paws of Heldo and Parvis Ubler, local bullies defended by their father's influential position. On top of getting into a fight with Heldo and Parvis, Wulgar also lost half of his mustache to Sealith, Braelithra's brother, who confronted Meriden and Wulgar, assuming that they were sullying his sister's honor.
Eventually Wulgar and Meriden were hired by an elven female to deliver a pakage to an elven mage. They stepped through a portal and ended up fighting a band of hobgoblins, as well as some demons, defending the elven mage, until they had realized that they had been sent back in time to deliver an artifact to try to aid in the defense of Myth Drannor. Wulgar and Meriden were put in suspended animation by Elminster of Athalantar, who promised to make arrangements to try and have them woken up in the proper time.
Wulgar and Meriden were indeed revived hundreds of years later, and Elminster gave each of them a Myth Drannan weapon. Wulgar gained a dwarven waraxe of exceptional sharpness, crafted by elven and dwarven artisans working together.
After this experience, Wulgar wanted to spend more time with his betrothed, and returned to Glen without Meriden. Wulgar began to work for Brongulf's merchant interests and travelling the Low Road as well.
Briefly Wulgar returned to his friend Meriden and his new comrades as they explored Anauroch to oppose the Shadovar by warning the Bedine of their plans. Wulgar was turned into a creature of shadow in a buried Netherese ruin that the party had taken cover in, but was subsequently freed of this curse, and returned to Glen. He is still working for his future father in law as a guard and explorer on the Low Road, often working with Chorn Stoneturner.
Possessions: Masterwork Half-plate armor, Masterwork Tower Shield, +1 keen dwarven waraxe (Myth Drannan craftsmenship), Glen glowstone (casts light when order to do so)
Aaron, the person in the group that plays Wulgar, moved to Chicago after he got a job as an architect with a firm up there, so he couldn't participate. He was an awesome player, very enthusiastic, and if we ever managed to work out how to play on Sundays, he might even make the three hour drive down south to help finish Wulgar's epic. |

Alert Watcher Meriden Greystag
Lawful good (Helm) human male (Chondathan) Clr 9/Ftr 1
Meriden is a relatively handsome young man with brown hair and green eyes, of average height and a slightly muscular build. He always stands stright and at attention, and rarely is seen without his shining mail, his shield, and his sword.
Meriden is the son of a retired Purple Dragon Knight that farms land just outside of Arabel. Sir Kordin Greystag distinguished himself in the Tuigan Crusade, and Meriden is the oldest of fifteen children. Meriden felt the call to serve Helm, the god his father held in high esteem, and went to Arabel to be trained by the relatively small staff at the Shrine of He Who Watches Over Travellers.
After learning to defend himself, and learning about the proper devotionals and ways to feel and channel Helm's power, Meriden began his career, which at this early stage consisted of blessing merchants and caravan guards, and healing the wounds of those injured by bandits and raiders. During this time, Meriden heard many tales of adventure, and became friends with a dwarf named Wulgar.
Meriden petitioned his superior Watchknight to scout out areas appropriate for a new temple or shrine to Helm. His request was held over for some time, and the war with Nalavara began. Meriden was working as a field medic during this time, aiding many with his spells and with magic items that were stored at the shrine. Eventually a band of warriors, including his friend Wulgar, fell back into Arabel before an orc horde rushed the city, and Wulgar and Meriden helped evacuate citizens through a gate the War Wizards created leading to Suzail.
The Shrine in Arabel was destroyed so Meriden was reassigned to the Altar of Shields in Tilverton, and allowed to head out to scout for potential locations for new temples in the Dales with his friend, the dwarf Wulgar. Upon travelling towards the Dales, Wulgar and Meriden ended up aiding an old ranger who was beset by goblins, and the ranger gave Meriden a specially trained eagle. Meriden never got around to giving the bird a proper name.
One of the first things that Meriden did in Ashabenford was to help rescue Haresk Malorn's youngest daughter from a Jaelre drow wizard. Meriden and Wulgar saved the girl and managed to bring the drow wizard back alive, and Meriden not only earned Haresk's appreciation, but also the attention of his older daughter, Naurvintha.
Meriden and Wulgar acted as scouts and bodyguards for a few months, and even made a few forays into the Beast Country in western Mistledale, the region that he thought the most appropriate for a temple to Helm. Naurvintha began to strongly suggest to Meriden that she would appreciate being courted, and though Meriden was hesitant at first, given that he didn't want to upset Haresk, he eventually began to court her as well.
Meriden and Wulgar eventually would end up travelling through time (meeting Elminster and gaining a Myth Drannan sword in the process), fighting a Monk of the Long Death that to this day harbors a hatred of Meriden, and defending the honor of a catfolk dancer at the Velvet Veil (an act that earned him the mistrust of Haresk Malorn, who read more into the relationship between Meriden and the dancer).
Eventually Wulgar and Meriden parted ways when the two were revived after their adventure through time. In Shadowdale, Meriden met up with a hulking, powerful, yet graceful half-ogre named Emen, and a young and mischeivious elf named Mourn. Mourn changed into a wolf in the common room of the Old Skull Inn, and nearly was killed by the various adventurers therein, except for the intervention of a red headed swordswoman and her reptilian friend.
Meriden, Mourn, and Emen ended up seeing a figure stealing a child in the woods outside of Shadowdale, and followed those who had absconded with the baby, only to find themselves inside a fey crossroads. They battled twig blights, red caps, and eventually a Durzagon, a half-devil duergar, that had kidnapped the girl for some reason. Upon recovering the child, they stepped through the other side of the crossroads instead of going back, and found that the crossroads opened up outside of Zhentil Keep.
Just outside of Zhentil Keep, the adventurers were beset by werewolves and met a slight man in travelling clothes carrying a book. After fighting off the werewolves, the adventurers were introduced to Grim Greycastle, a druid fleeing members of the People of the Black Blood.
Eventually the group would run afoul of the Shadovar and travel with their ambasador, and be privy to a meeting between the Zhents and the Shadovar as they plan to slaughter the Bedine. Eventually, after a mishap with a ring given by the Shadovar, Meriden and his allies watched Elminster fall into a rift into the Nine Hells.
Meriden and the adventurers travelled to Anauroch after recieving the blessings of the superiors at the Altar of Shields in Tilverton, and the group met up with Wulgar again. Meriden was horrified when Wulgar fell victim to a curse, though the Harpers eventually aided the afflicted dwarf.
Meriden has aided in breaking blockades of goblins outside of Tilverton, fought young blue dragons, phaerimm, malaugrym, and even more Zhentarim while defeating plots to replace rulers of the Dales at Shieldmeet.
Meriden in now on the verge of finalizing plans to marry Naurvintha, now that he is back in the good graces of Haresk, and has begun to finalize plans for the temple in the Beast Country, having obtained funding, an engineer, and recruits from the House Invincible in Silverymoon.
Meriden's new goal, upon completing the temple, is to found an order of information gatherers in the church of Helm, whose headquarters would be underneath the unassuming temple to Helm in the Beast Country.
Possessions: The Price of Vigilance(+3 lawful defender bastard sword, found on the body of a Helmite who died outside of Darkhold), +1 everbright full plate armor, +2 heavy steel shield, +1 keen bastard sword (Myth Drannan sword), tan bag of tricks |

Adept Lady Knight Emen of Helm
Lawful Neutral (Helm) Half-Ogre Female Monk 10
Emen is a very tall, thickly built, but lean and muscular half-ogre. She has yellow skin and black eyes, and wears her long hair in a long, tight braid that falls down the center of her back. She is very neat in her appearance, and she keeps herself and her attire extreemly orderly, especially compared to nearly any other half-ogre.
Emen was found in the Stonelands at a very young age. She was first found by a kindly, yet stern monk devoted to Helm while he was travelling with an adventuring party through this untamed region. Emen remembers little before the kindly old monk found her.
The monk trained Emen in his order diciplines, and the pair travelled througout Cormyr and Sembia, and the young half-ogre was intimidating even at a young age. Dispite her great size, or perhaps because of it, Emen training in the skills of a monk were difficult, but once she began to understand her master's lessons, she became very formidable.
When he felt that she was ready, Emen was taken back to Tilverton by the old monk, to the Altar of Shields, and she was made a member of the Everwatch Knights. One of her first assignments was to guard a merchant travelling to Shadowdale, and while she delivered him there safely, the merchant dismissed her from service when he arrived in the dale, and before she could travel home, Emen met up with Meriden and Mourn, and eventually she became a member of their adventuring party.
Emen has occaisionally left the party to fulfill obligations to the Church of Helm and has worked out of Elturel for several months at a time. Much to her chagrin, the last time she left the party Mourn decided to travel with her out of boredom, and the two managed to get into no end of trouble before they rejoined their other friends.
Emen is quiet and unassuming. She takes for granted that she will defend the "status quo," but she also has no qualms about accepting pay to render her services, though she is not greedy, and most of her gold goes back to the Church of Helm or to items that can increase her own effectiveness.
Emen is not bloodthirsty, but she does enjoy oppourtunities to push her skills to the limit, and takes great pride in knowning that she has ended a threat to someone in her charge.
Possessions: Silver Butterfly Sword +2, Silver Dagger +2, Ring of Protection +3, Amulet of Mighty Fists +2, various personal enhancement potions.

Moun Nine-fingers
Choatic neutral male lythari sorcerer 5
Mourn appears to be a handsome male elf, young, with long black hair streaked with silver, and odd hair color for a lythari. Most who see him and know a bit about elves assume he is a moon elf. Also unlike most lythari, Mourn wears fashionable, well cut clothes and carries a rapier and longbow in the style of moon elves.
Mourn has always been facinated with non-lythari. Eventually he managed to sneak away from his family to explore Faerun, but unfortunately hadn't spent nearly enough time learning about the fey crossroads and portals that the lythari use for their travels, and was trapped in Faerun.
Mourn spent a bit of time in the Dales watching the humans there and practicing his sorcery out of sight, and began to pick up on what humans saw as "typical" elf traits, and decided to emulate these. He spent all of the valuables he could find to buy himself nice clothes, a rapier, and a bow so that he would "look the part."
In a relatively short time, Mourn picked up on some rather un-lythari like behavior, such as growing accustomed to his fine clothes, drink, food, and expensive rooms in various inns. Eventually Mourn made it to Shadowdale, and was staying in the Old Skull Inn when Meriden and Emen happened to be there as well.
Mourn got into a fight with a group of drunken adventurers, and reflexively shifted to wolf form. The adventurers assumed that Mourn was a werewolf. Thankfully a certain red haired swordswoman and her saurial paladin friend were in attendance at the Old Skull at the time, and managed to buy Mourn time to escape.
Mourn eventually hired Emen as his bodyguard, and began to travel with her and Meriden. The trio picked up Grim Greycastle as well, and eventually ended up embroiled in plots with the Zhentarim, the People of the Black Blood, and the Shadovar, from whom Mourn accepted a ring enchanted with the Shadow Weave.
This object, unknown to Mourn, was key to allowing a rift to open to the Nine Hells that managed to trap Elminster for a time, though Mourn did not immediately know that his ring would cause the planar rift that it did. Eventually his companions saw the threat the ring posed and gave him his now famous moniker by making sure that he no longer wore the ring given by the Shadovar.
Mourn has serious impulse control issues, as well as being prone to going off on non-sensical tangents, such as declaring a spoon that he was carrying as an avatar of Corellon and imploring it for help whenever he gets into dangerous situations.
Mourn's father worries about his sons apparent lack of both common sense and sanity, and his father returned to take him back to the lythari lands for a while to "educate" the young elf, but eventually Mourn found his way back to Faerun, and began to travel with his old friend Emen for a while, until the two wandered back to Ashabenford for their friend Meriden's wedding.
Possessions: +1 flaming rapier, +1 composite longbow, Wand of Identify, Wand of Fireball, various arcane scrolls for disguise and personal defense.

Daggerspell shapers are found in Complete Adventurer, but in a nutshell, its a militant order of druids that learn rogue skills (or vice versa) that learn how to shapeshift with their weapons in place, so that any special abilities of the weapons are now applied to the forelimbs of the new form. So if a daggerspell shaper had a +1 flaming dagger, and wildshaped into a bear, they would have a flaming claw attack.
That reminds me, I wrote up an organization on the edge of the Moonwood that was my "Realms" version of the Daggerspell organization in Complete Adventurer, I should post that sometime. In my campaign I made the order a Tower dedicated to Meilikki, Mystra, and Lurue. |

Allright! HTnaks! Sounds very interesting - might encourage my players in choosing a Druid as PC (we had that discussion on a different thread already ) I will check it out.

Might I post my Heroes of Mistledale? Maybe you would get a laugh about other adventurers running around the dale? If you don't that's ok though. |
