With the background I was working on for two weeks finally finished for our planar mercenary campaign. I was stunned to learn that one of the players in my group had turned in his to the dm a few days before I finished mine. The part that suck is that he will be playing a drow evoker. I was going to go with a gold elf fighter/mage progressing into thee mage killer PRC form Magic of Faerun. Now I know my character would have tried to kill the drow almost at first sight. I am now forced to go with another way. So I was looking for any suggestions you all might have for an alternative. We are all starting at level 8 with any races playable with an ecl 4 or less. So far we have the cursed Drow wizard, a half-elven bard, a tiefling hexblade, with 2 others undecided as of yet. The campaign will be based out of Waterdeep/Skullport/Sigil. Any and all suggestions are welcome

Well not sure why you need to have a character with a Drow Drow on sight personality. Gold do tend to be more uptoght about purity etc, perhaps a simple change to Silver with a greater williness to acept the rare good Drow (I do infer this is a good campaign).
If your DM is good he would set up the situation in such a way that kill a PC on sight should not occur.
As for character sudjestions not realy well able to advise, it appears you desire a combatble race with Drow, Half-Elven and a tiefling. Also you might want to balance classes involved. Rouge and Cleric are missing from your list, the hexblade and bard at least part fighter.
Not sure you should change your character , just change some background motivation to kill Drow. Even if you come up with a different concept you might come back with the same question when the other two players describe their characters. |

sometimes I just miss the good 'ol days. what about a straight up human ranger. a 1/2 elven mage/thief ( my favorite) or an elven druid is always cool, but would most likely have issues with the drow. I know, there are about a hundred Prc's now and honestly I could not name them all, but sometimes getting back to the basics is the right thing to do. |

Hmmm I haven't played a ranger since first edition. I think I saw a variant on the ranger called a planar ranger. Anyone know where this can be found? |

This may be a little on the late side, and it sounds like you've maybe moved on but dude, it's a fantasy game. You are only EVER limited by your own emagination. Thus if you want to play your elf fighter mage then just do it mate. Simply come up with a decent story as to how and why that a'nt gonna be such a hassel. Which concidering your playing a mercenary outfit shouldn't be that hard. Mercenarys don't generaly give much of a toss about who they're working with, only the colour of their coin. Food for thought mayhaps.
Other ideas that are awsume skullport'esk, bein something of a self proclaimed expert on everything Skullport, would be; Half-ogre fighter/thief, half-orc mage/thief or for somethin kinda funky how about the end result of some weird wild magic or experiment gone esqu resulting in an sentient skeleton of... whatever race, class and kit.
Remember sunshine, your only ever limited by your own emagination.
Enjoy.
