WOW, for some reason I had the hardest time getting this in the appropriate forum, I think I got it now.
My gaming group has just finished running a lengthy (2-3 year or so) campaign and are taking a short break before we start another one. We will be running Age of Worms(in the Realms of course) starting in May, so I got a while to think about it (please keep spoilers to a minimum, if any, regarding the adventure pathe).
So, my issue is, I have no idea what I'm going to play. I would like to take recommendations on what type of character you think would complement the group we have...
I generally play Dwarves as a race and Paladins as a class and I want a little change of pace.
My last character was an Arch-Mage that I played until 19th level so I'm a little tired of wizards for the moment so that's probably out.
At first I was leaning towards a Monk/Favored Soul of Ilmater and then I was leaning towards a Fochlucan Lyrist and I even gave thought to a ranger for a while. But I am really indecisive right now (obviously).
The group will consist of...
Halfling Cleric/Psion Elven Rogue (possibly fighter levels as well) Dwarven Barbarian A Human Rogue (ranged weapon specialist) My Character
I know at a glance it looks like we really need a wizard but the cleric/psion will have access to the magic domain and the rogue will have plenty of ranks in Use Magic Device. Plus, as I mentioned before I am looking for a change of pace to the straight-up wizard.
Suggestions? Ideas? Random Thoughts?

How about any of the variant arcane classes? Like Warlock or whatever? I dunno.... It wouldn't be a straight wizard but it'll help with the arcane angle.... |
For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

age of worms, huh? Isn't that the era where humanoids were the thralls of dragons? assuming it is...
hmm if only there werent so many rogues in your party id suggest that! rogues would be really good because they would be the sneaky rebellious ppl trying to overthrow the dragons. maybe like a spymaster or assassin
you could also play a cleric... oh wait your group has that too clerics make sense in this era because they are champions for their gods who want to see their races flourish.
hmm barbarian also makes sense since the cultures are young.
you could play a ranger which is in between the useful rogue and a fighter which is what your party needs (if you refuse to be a wizard) a ranger also has a link to nature which could help out your party alot. especially if your cleric doesnt really have nature spells.
a wizard would be cool but impractical... or a druid oculd be nice. give them 'primitive caster' from Frostburn!
um id suggest playing an elder race like elves or dwarves because they are more plentiful at this time than in modern faerun. you could play a female also because it shows how societies havent developed into socially imposed gender stereotypes.
so yeah its your call |

Thanks for the input, but...
Age of Worms is an Adenture Path being released in Dungeon Magazine that takes characters from level 1-20. It is a non-canon adventure that takes place in Modern Faerun.
And it is Age of Worms, not Wyrms. Worms as in parasites, not Wyrms as in Dragons. I appreciate the input though.
I'm going to go check out some of the variant arcane classes right now. |

Hmmm.... Eldritch Knight (a little physical, a little magical), Sort of a wizard. Warlock/Bard (not melee combat but a variety of offensive and defensive abilites, plus bardic knowledge and music!), Sort of wizard. Druid, lots of nifty abilities, good in combat, good in social. not a wizard.

Intriguing. I'll have to read through the Binder one more time. I hastily read through the book as soon as I got it but don't seem to remember all the details. I'll definitely spend some time perusing this one tonight. |

I'm currenlly having fun playing a bard7/paladin3(with the Ruby Rose knight substitution level at level three)/heartwarder of Sune2. I am planning on staying in Heartwarder for all 10 levels. Its a change of pace from a "standard" paladin, he wears mithril chain and weilds a rapier and buckler, or whip. I dont really use the whip much, but you need to be prof. with it to get into heartwarder and bard gets whip prof. standard with the class.

I've actually toyed with the idea of going Favored Soul/Swashbuckler/Heartwarder or Favored Soul/Rogue/Heartwarder. I'll have to look into it a little more. |
