I cannot, at this point, say with any certainty that I will be there next year. I can say that I will definitely make every effort between now and the next Gen Con to ensure it becomes possible for me to attend.

*waggling his fingers a bit in your general direction*
Now how did that funny voice go.....oh yes,

GenCon attend next year you must

It's definitely a priority... but, unfortunately, work and my family must always be my first consideration. The Lady K and I would love to attend GenCon, but little Narnra's comfort and safety must be considered first.

Hmmm... She'll be a little over two years of age by next GenCon. How early should parents expose their children to the marvels of the greatest RPG con on the planet?

Good question, my girl will be 11 next year and I am strongly considering bringing her 1 day, but im not sure either.
Alot of my question on that issue though, revolves around never going to a Gen Con before. Not sure what to expect!

If she tries to eat the dice, she's not ready. If she rolls them, giver her a PHB!

Well there were a few kids to babies there, if I recall right. A 11 year old shouldn't be an issue to much depending on what parts of the Center you are in. Just keep watch on her if you are in the dealer's room because it's packed.

Felt like bumper cars on Saturday.

A 2 year old would probably be easier to keep track of..... hopefully.

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Hehe.

I'm so tempted to start swaying her RPG choice to the Realms as well.

That's what I'm thinking.

Though she's more likely to get tired and grumpy before an older child.

Sure. I'll be teachng ESL in a small city in Northeastern Poland called Olsztyn. It's quite far from Krakow from what I can ascertain. I'd still be happy to make the connections because I do plan to do a lot of travel in Poland and throughout Europe. If anyone wants to get together, or house a starving game designer for a few days, that would be more than welcome.

Well sage, dont be mortified when I say I saw a man and wife on a leash on the first Thursday morning there.

Just a suggestion you can use to keep the kiddo abou? :P

But seriously, there where tons more of kids/babies there then I would have thought, and the entire time me and Kuje only heard one kid (a baby) go off, which was surpring considering how packed/noisy it was. But alot of the kids looked like they where interested in everything and what have you.

Edit: And you've got the Indianapolis Zoo not terribly far away, and the Indianapolos Children Mueseum, said to be the best childrens museum in the world. Has tons of stuff in a, a merry-go-round, coupld of slides, huge glass artwork when you first walk in now, tons of stuff. Like Egyptian stuff, dino stuff (where you can move dust and discover dino fossils lol).

Great point! We just went to the childrens museum last month, its great got a membership to save $ we go so often.

My daughters favorites are the Authrntic Egyptian Mummy and
the new dinosaur species they discovered and named. DracoRex Hogwartsia( That is its actual scirntific name!). It is very cool, its skull has many ridges and small horns. It looks closer to a Dragon than any other known Dinosaur species.

Check it out! First link is pictures, you gotta check out the last picture at the bottom! It is very detailed if you click on that pic.(Then tell me Dragons aren't real!) Second link is press release with general info.

I can personally say a 2 year old for a day would be OK but you will not get to participate fully in anything (speaking from personal experience - I only did one day on Sat). I would think an 11 year old would do OK with the right events picked out.

I second the Childrens' Museum as a must see. A family membership was the best buy we made. I usually take the kid there every couple of weeks. You will not see everything in one visit and their is tons of hands on stuff.

All in all, with admission, parking, eating out and buying stuff in the dealer room, the boy and I ended up dropping a little over $200 for that one day. Hard to imagine but I knew what I wanted before I got there.

If the wife is ameniable, I may be able to offer floor space for some of you at my home next year to save the cost of hotel. Downside is I live a little over 10 miles away from the convention center.
