I'd recommend actually meeting inside the Hyatt or outside of it. It's to hard to really meet in the hall itself, as we all saw. Or meeting at someone's hotel room, which is what Neri did when I gave him my room #.

And if some of you from overseas plan on going next year, let us know. I might change my plans if I knew some of you were going, otherwise I doubted I'd go next year. :)

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

Hell, the Hyatt's lobby was very nice place to go to. You could see it very clearly and had easy access to it from the Convention Center. Was a fair size too and wasn't very busy (untill the Event Hall closed)

Or the Hotel Room, tho not a Hilton Hotel Room ;)

But yea, oversea'ers should like tell us in six months for sure. Mainly cause hotel rooms where nearly gone by the time Kuje got his.

Grin,

Hells. I won't even stay at the hilton again. It's way to long to walk to and from! :)

I also agree that anyone coming from overseas should try to let us know months before the con. Rooms go fast and I bought mine like 3 or 4 months before the con.

Sarah and I had good luck with the Best Western City Centre; a bit of a walk around the RCA Dome, but worth it for the price (and the king sized bed and jacuzzi).

Hello-

Sorry fo rthe 'blackout' from me. While my hotel did have 'net access - I decided NOT to try and log on here - as I would want to pour through all the new posts and such, and sleep was pretty important to me! That - and I had/have tons to do to catch up around the house.

I will post some thoughts in general elsewhere, or possibly as addendums to other peoples' postings later.

As for Candlekeep presence next year - one thought - get one of the tables that lined the outside of the dealers hall - with a nift Candlekeep banner and such. It would be highly visible, and we could have bookmarks for the site to pass out - as well as printed copies of the Compendium to show people what we have done. (*I brought my printouts, in case anyone was curious about the site from my badge.*)

This would give us a central location to meet - and also give us (website) some exposure. Being that it will be the 20th Ann. of the published Realms - this might be a good idea. Maybe we could even arrange to have some 'special guests' come by the booth now and again....

Dhomal

I am collecting the D&D Minis. I would be more than willing to trade with people. You can send me a PM here with your email listed - and I can send you my minis list. Thanks!

I do not know how to make this happen, but it seems to be the best idea I have read. If I am not mistaken, once we had an official event room, that room is able to be open 24 hours.

I will be at '07 , already scheduled a week's worth of vacation around it!

My goal is to be there, though I will be in Poland for most of the next 12 months, so I have no idea how that will work out. Gen Con is usually such a valuable time for industry people, so it's hard to miss it.

I think my manager (that is, best friend from ye olden days of gaming) and I are looking into the Hyatt or the Mariott for next year. The walk to the Radisson was just silly. Now if only the gold will manifest. . . .

This Best Western City Centre of which you speak, Steven, sounds like a matter in need of investigation, however. :)

I'm a bit (just a bit!) jealous, it sounds like you guys had quite the vacation, with this talk of jacuzzis and such.

Least the Hilton has a jacuzzi as well, so I guess between the puter lab and that pool and the jacuzzi, the walk to and from the Con Center wasn't that bad. :)

Did they have a nice arcade, too?

The Hilton really didn't have much, it was very disapointing for a Hilton and the rooms where rather small.

It didn't suck, though it wasn't much of a vacation due to the chaos of the convention.

Still, for my money's worth, I'm getting that jacuzzi in the room again, if only because it's good on the muscles and you don't have to share it with anyone you don't wish to (unlike public jacuzzis by the pool).

I just hope that next year Con there are things that we can do besides gaming after the Event Hall closes next year.

Hello-

As odd as it may seem - I did not actual 'gaming' while at the con. I was a dealers room junkie, plus I attended several seminars. After the Exhibit Hall closed - I found several fun things to do! The Auction room was open quite late - and the Auction Store was there - waiting for me to find a few tidbits of things to buy. Most of the prices were quite good. I also like watching the auction sometimes - to see how much some people spend on some of the items for sale! Dice bags for $150? Yup. (It was for charity at the moment - and it had original Easley art on it, done - I beleive - just for the auction.)

Then - there was the miniatures room. While I dont play Battletech, etc, etc. I have dabbled in the D&D Minis beyond their RP value, and just looking at some of the dioramas and whatnot were truly neat! One of them had a modern-like city set up, with a big mushroom cloud in one corner - complete with some burning buildings, and partially cruched buildings etc.

I briefly poked my head in the Lan room - and while it looked like it would be a lot of fun - it was crowded. However - if y ou were there even later than I - it might have thinned out.

So - there are some other things to do. Not necessarilly a lot - but they are there. :)

That is why I think Eytan's idea is so good. If we had an official room ,we would always have a place to go and have something to do.

I suggested to Kuje yesterevening that within a couple of months, it would be nice to know who is coming or getting a feel if they are, so say like if Alaundo or Sage is coming, we know and can get a few more people set in *cough*

I can almost guarantee I will be back. I've gone the last 3 years and it's a very important source of networking for designers. The only thing that might get in the way of that is the possibility that I might still be in Poland then.

I am definately hoping to make it to GenCon Indy next year. It should work out fine provided no more legal actions involving my ex wife come up . . . but that is another another tale . . . when I know for sure I'll definately say so, as I think it would be great to get even more of us scribes together next year.

It's definitely a priority... but, unfortunately, work and my family must always be my first consideration. The Lady K and I would love to attend GenCon, but little Narnra's comfort and safety must be considered first.

Hmmm... She'll be a little over two years of age by next GenCon. How early should parents expose their children to the marvels of the greatest RPG con on the planet?
