Hi, I'm just looking for any additional info on Sossal.
What I have found is very short a tiny bit in FRCS.

There is little lore on Sossal out there.

Having said that, the 2e Great Glacier tome has a little about Sossal, but not a great deal. The 2e Running the Realms sourcebook has a few details about the end of the kingship in Sossal. Other than that though, it's still a pretty undeveloped region of the Realms in terms of source material.

From Ed's scrolls, we know that on the topic of the use of surnames in Sossal, people who marry into other families, are granted a surname which passes down in a matrilineal fashion.

The best information on Sossal is found in the 2e Wizards and Rogues of the Realms and Warriors and Priests of the Realms supplements. There's a few tidbits in the 2e FRCS and Eric included a paragraph on the Sossrim in the 3e Races of Faerun. There's also some bits in the 2e The Horde boxed set.

See also the short story "The Greatest Hero Who Ever Died" by J. Robert King in Realms of Infamy for more on Sossal.

You should also check out the last book in the Rogue Dragons Trilogy. A large portion of it is based in Sossal.

Ed did a Sossal writeup for someone within TSR some years back (long before the Rogue Dragons trilogy). It wasn't long, because the TSR bod who held it up at a long-ago GenCon seminar was holding up 2 pages (8.5x11, both sides). Included an Ed map and illo of locals in local dress.

Well, Sossal is far from the happenings of the rest of Faerun and there is little published until now, so unless its included in an eventual update for the Bloodstone lands (and I have heard nothing to indicate anything like that) the chances of this are slim as I see it. But it would be a good subject for a series of web- articles (hint, hint, Eric, Ed and others)

So is Chult, Icewind Dale, the Utter East, etc.

but for some reason Sossal never gets covered, even with it's hints of an exotic, unique society, strange magics and it's wars with white dragons and frost giants...

They could of course include it in a reworking of the Great Glacier. I am sorry to say this, but that supplement is among the least interesting products TSR ever released for any setting and had little to do with the realms.

A re-write of the Great Glacier that would include Sossal (and should include Sossal) is a definite need in my bookshelf.

mhhh ....
I think Sossal should be updated with a sourcebook covering the Utter North in general. The Great Ice Sea region is full of Ruins of the old realm of Raumathar. We got some lore about old Narfell and the human ethnic groups of the region (CoR, UE, RoF) but even less about Raumathar and the mysterious sossrim.
if done thoughtfully it could cover many areas we called for (Realms version of Frostburn, more about old empires, informations about regions poorly described in the past or crying to be updated)

Is there a reason for this? Is there a possible new FR product on the horizon? I hope so, I'm getting "Chills" thinking about it.

Could someone POST some of the small amount of information rather than just saying it exists? Why do people do this?

It's largely because the majority of scribes may simply not have the time to type up the information in a post which pertains to a lore-request -- especially if the information is scattered among numerous different sources.

Additionally, it's actually illegal to reproduce large amounts of such official information on a public forum. Quoting a source [or just a small portion of the official text], instead, is usually the preferred [and legal] etiquette.

Wasn't there some Sossal Lore in the novel Frostfell?

"These things also I have observed: that knowledge of our world is
to be nurtured like a precious flower, for it is the most precious
thing we have. Wherefore guard the word written and heed
words unwritten and set them down ere they fade . . . Learn
then, well, the arts of reading, writing, and listening true, and they
will lead you to the greatest art of all: understanding."

Yes. I've referenced most of it in my Realms notebooks, but I'm presently thousands of kilometres away from them at the moment.

I don't recall ANY mention of Sossal in Frostfell, and I've read it three times (but I could be mistaken).

There are bits and pieces of stuff about Narfell and Raumanther though (and perhaps a Sossal tidbit is hidden somewhere in that).

The short story The Greatest Hero who Ever Lived (IIRC) is in two of the anthologies (once again, IIRC), and has probably the most Sossal info in any one place.

There is also a thread here at the keep somewhere wherein someone compiled EVERYTHING - every single mention of Sossal - in one place for easy reference, but I'm not in the mood to go looking for it. There was (briefly) a 'Sossal project' planned that never got off the ground.

Because its the realms, and part of its fun is digging for obscure lore throughout multiple books.... because inevitably while looking for something else, you find something new that also catches your fancy. Well, that and who has time to retype everything everytime someone has a question like this (I know I've thrown out hundreds of questions like this, and always people have sent me off to dig through lore... sometimes finding a treasure trove I never knew existed).

They're not direct references. Merely off-hand tidbits passed in conversation between characters that I found interesting and noted for later inclusion in my notebooks.
