Telemont Thanthul, the Lord Shadow, around 3000 years old, supermage.

IMO, he is the 2nd most powerful mage in Faerun, after Larloch.

Somebody like the Sorjourner (12000 year old supermage from Erevis Cale trilogy) mage may be more powerful, but he is dead, and not from Toril.

1) Larloch
2) Telemont
3) Elminster
4) Halaster
5) The Simbul

Karsus etc, were around level 42, but using the new rule sets, they are around level 34 (i.e. slightly less powerful than Telemont is now). Karsus had Godhood for a while, just because he gets it does not necessarily mean he is the most powerful, may be the others were wiser...

If you are thinking these surviving Netherese would grow in levels over time, that is logical, but Halaster is 4000 years old, and still level 30...

Others like Simbul, Sammaster, Eliminster, Halaster, Szass Tam are all around level 30....Thus Eliminster would be #1 if they fought each other one-on-one (in a Greenwood novels he defeated the Simbul, Simbul also mentioned he was more powerful than her in another novel), unless one fights Halaster in Undermountain!

Well, stats are relative, they change often. Telamont is around 2000 years old. Also Karsus was lvl. 41 and it would be still that lvl. if he would be brought back. And of course every one of these archwizards is the most powerful in his lair/sanctum

Some authro recently was talking about how epics sometimes lose levels over the course of forever. Sinc they dont gain levels as rapidly, there comes a point where your battles versus undead and ppl with lvvl drain, and creating magical items reverses your levels... I think they said that this had happened to Elminster. It's a very merlin-esque concept and I like it.

"You will never get a chance to speak again and that's an appropriate ending."
