The Lich is in the regular Monster Manual. The Demi-Lich can be found in the Epic Level Handbook. |

The demilich is a higher (and more powerful) form of lich, so to speak. According to the AD&D 2nd edition Monstrous Manual, a demilich is a lich that has evolved to something more powerful. When a lich has learned all that it feels it can in its undead life, it will continue its quest for power in other, extraplanar realms. Having no use for its physical body at this point, the lich leaves it to rot and decay. Typically, only a skull or a few bones will remain of its body.
The XP-value of a demilich is 10000 XP, as opposed to 8000 XP for a "normal" lich. |

For a more in-depth analysis of lichdom and its various stages... I would recommend the 2e RAVENLOFT supplement Van Richten's Guide to Liches.

Quite correct. The 2nd edition Ravenloft sourcebooks are of high quality and quite, quite useful even for fans of other campaign settings (e.g. FR). |

I'm in total agreement, the original 2E Van Richten's guides and other Ravenloft materials are must haves. I remember then opening my mind and turning bland Monster Manual entries into unique and powerful individuals. (I almost said living a breathing.. but well...) The usefullness of these guides goes FAR beyond the Ravenloft setting. Does anyone know if they are available in PDF? It's occured to me of late that PDF's are far easier to access than the horrors of my gaming closet filled with years upon years of old RPG products |

For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet and excite you... Books are full of the things that you don't get in real life - wonderful, lyrical language, for instance, right off the bat. - Anne Lamott, Bird by Bird

What are the properties of PDFs bought by RPGNow or Paizo? Can you search / select text etc., or are they scanned as high quality images, with no text-handling capabilities? |

I've purchased several Paizo pdfs, myself. The major selling point with them was that if the pdf is later updated (better quality scan, etc), then you'd get the newer version without having to rebuy it.
That said, some of the scans have been excellent quality, with full search and copy capabilities. Others haven't been so excellent, and the searching and copying is spotty, at best. I've had more of the former than the latter, but the latter does still exist. |

My RL Van Richten's Guides, or rather the lore inside each of them, see plenty of usage in just about any campaign I've ran, regardless of whether its been a specific setting or not. The rules are still useful, considering I do have heavy elements of the 2e AD&D ruleset running through most of my games... but as useful reference tomes for their subjects, well, let's just sayd... very few of the specific monster books published since have managed to even come close to surpassing them.

It really does depend on the particular PDFs you are looking for.
I've purchased some of the Planescape PDFs from paizo.com (mainly so I can browse through them while at work), and I've been happy with most of them, to a degree.
On the other hand, I've also downloaded a DL tome (an adventure module actually) and was sorely disappointed with both the quality and organisation of the copy. The original PDF I had displayed some pages at a slight angle, while the third, forth and fifth pages where actually swapped around in a fifth, forth and third progression. I reported this to paizo.com and they eventually pulled the PDF from their catalogues and rectified it. They did not however, apologise for the lack of professionalism with regard to the PDF that I had previously purchased.

Yes and usserly there is a dead boddy besid the Phylactery.
Phylactery Transference Headbands, belts, rings, cloaks, and other wearable items kept in close association with the demilich’s phylactery transfer all their benefits to the demilich no matter how far apart the demilich and the phylactery are located. The standard limits on types of items utilized simultaneously still apply. The sample demilich “wears” bracers of armor +8, headband of intellect +6, pink Ioun stone, ring of wizardry I, ring of protection +2, and gloves of Dexterity +2.
