Is there a volcano anywhere near Cormyr?

Just to clarify, on the map of Faerun I found volcanos in The Crags in Neverwinter Wood, The Smoking Mountains in Unther, The Aphrunn Mountains in Turmish, and The Peaks of Flame in Chult. I was really wondering of there are any volcanos that are not identified on the 3ed map that may be closer to Cormyr.

The short answer to that is probably: no. But that doesn't mean you can't have a dormant volcano in the Thunder Peaks or the Storm Horns which comes back to life.

It's been said that the smoke from the furnaces of the Hornshield fortress, which occupies a cleft in Mount Shalandragar [in the Storm Horns], has sometimes been mistaken as a volcano.

Given what George said above, you could suggest that what's providing most of the heat and fire for those furnaces is a partially tapped magma core (or a semi-decayed mantle plume perhaps) of a once active volcano in the region.

That's perfect, thanks Sage. My guys are in Arabel and they're around 15th level now so I thought I'd like to throw some fire giants their way. I'd been tinkering with some ideas for a fire giant encounter based in or around a volcano, but I never remember to do it when they are near a volcano or high enough level to survive. Any tips on fire giant lore sources?

Giantcraft has a few specific tidbits on Fire Giants in the Realms -- such as society, politics, and the like -- in the 'Fire Giant Hall' section.

There are fire giants in the Desertmouth Mountains, in and near the dwarven ruins of Tethyamar. There are also fire giants in the Flamming Tower between Daggerdale and Teshendale. Neither group has a volcano, but there could easily be lava in/around the underdark caverns of Tethymar. Neither location is terribly far for 15th level charactes in Arabel

"Over the Mountains
Of the Moon
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
Ride, boldly ride,"
The shade replied,
"If you seek for Eldorado!"
