Yes I must say

my pure and fragile sensibilities have been somewhat...altered by this new and distrubing factoid.

In other breaking news...that dip sounds fantastic. But what about alternatives, much of that stuff does not come here. US embargo's dont help either.

philly cheese - well if that means philidelphia cream cheese then I think we get that here. 3 bricks...ok well they come in tubs here, but im sure it will work.

sour cream - check
worcestershire sauce - big not check, but i can get the family to send some from home
hot sauce - check
ketchup - check
Knorr soup mix - leek flavour might be hard...any other suggestions there? Must it be vegetable for full flavour?

P.S.

I think someone should formulate a basic cooking process for this and add it to alaundo's realmslore thread. Elminster's dip or something...

For me, regular plain M&Ms!

At our gaming table:
Coke or Pepsi (depends on which is in the fridge!)
Veggie Tray
Pretzels
Tortilla chips
Twizzlers
Hershey's Kisses
Sausage, cheese and crackers

For dinner/supper break: Either pizza or going to Quizno's or Jersey Mike's sub shops (usually the group splitting as to who goes where...). Also fried chicken from the local grocery store.

Hmmm, I want to come to your table!

(Just curious, since you come from the U.S.A. too, what part of the country are you in? I hail from the East Coast.)

quick question for the people with the well stocked larders.

How does the game session work? Does one person (whose house it is at) make all the foodies and so on, and then everyone comes around after work and you game? How long do you game for and does it not beocme expensive? do you guys have sleepovers or so on. Basically, how does DND fit into your normal schedule, weekends notwithstanding?

@Rad: Feel invited to join my table anytime... inter-european flights from UK/Germany are available starting at 90 Euros (next airport would be Frankfurt/Main, in case you go by car: remember that we´re driving on the RIGHT side of the road) :->

@the Sage: It has to be M&Ms crunchy for the DM (me), with the players opting for plain and peanut

@MuaDib: I am the DM, my players come to my house, I prepare the food (usually my players bring some Soda/soft Drinks and chips with them, as well) As for the pizza... I´m not nearly as good a cook as my wife is, but since she usually "flees" the house when I´m gaming, we order from our FLPS (friendly local pizza store, yummie!! We game usually on friday or saturday nights, starting at around 6pm, going on to 1 or 2 am, in a 3-5 weeks rotation. It´s not expensive at all, gaming material excluded.

Oh, by the way, i missed to mention that at my table there is always

-licorice
-gummi bears
-ham and cheese muffins (thanks to my wife, huzzah!)
-AND coffee

too.

In my Years of playing I have found that coffee is one of the great items around the table. Especially for the DM. Boost of little energy (And not falling asleep) are great. Saying that I've always fancied playing AD&D in Amsterdam, where certian Mind altering cookies are on sale. Perhaps Sometime...

Anyway, I think I might join Rad in joining your group ! Your table sounds well stocked!

Ive found that the basic food item at my gaming table has to be beer and or ale. When you play with more then half the party being dwarves you start to pick up their mannerisms. Also, pizza is a most have, along with any type of junk food, and every now and then wine for the mages and elfs.

Oh coffee , I can't stand drinking coffee while gaming. I prefer a warm cup of herbal tea. I've even got the Sage drinking it, although he insists on a cup of earl grey...HOT!

Somehow, we would figure it would suit The Sage.... Being the wiseman he is here it just seems right...
Although At our gaming table we usually just have the basic chips and pop... Sometimes we'll have a meal of sorts (Stew, soup, spaghetti)...
Although we ourselves, usually go on a hunger strike upon the beginning of the game. Food only interupts the concentration for us... plus, it is through starvation that the greatest... (and some of the most foolish) RP ideas seem to flow into us... plus food makes us tired...

I've always tried to avoid eating standard meals while gaming, mainly because I think they can sometimes distract the player from focusing on his PC and the general movement of the game. In most cases, we normally eat afterwards, discussing the game and it's highlights over whatever type of meal we feel like eating at the time (mostly pizza).

Because other people make it so it doesn't take time away from the game and it tastes good?

Hmmmn . . . an interesting possibility, but I still think there's more to the attraction of pizza than just it's potential for saving game-time.

I'll discover the answer sooner or later . . . I just have to use all the power of my brain --

Again, that doesn't address the real reason, other than it being good for the game. There has to be more to the gamer attraction of pizza than that . . .

What about . . . it tastes good?

My friend and I stop off at least once a week (usually) to split a medium-sized cheeze pizza at the local 3 Brothers. That's a small chain of authentic Italian resturaunts -- or as authentic as you can get over here. Anyway, the pizza is pretty good. My friend has to take my word for it (for now, anyway), but it's actually Italian pizza, not the American copy.

Hmm . . . now I'm hungry again.

Taste is a crucial element in it's popularity. Maybe it's just a case of the elements of pizza mentioned so far that all combine together to create this bond between a gamer and his pizza.

I don't like pizza when I'm gaming. Way too greasy. Oh I do like pizza but just every once in a while even once a week is too much for me though.
Hmm as for gaming snacks for me I like fruits. Apple slices with cheese slices (I know, I'm weird ), pear slices, grapes, orange pieces, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, ok any kind of berries . Stuff like that. Of course keep napkins handy to keep your hands dry Fruit juice wipes off soo much easier than pizza grease hehe

Remember I said something about how there's a difference between American and Italian pizza? I'd be willing to bet your idea of pizza comes from someplace like Domino's, or perhaps the do-it-yourself frozen ones. (If I'm going to stick it in the oven, I prefer to make it myself; it's one of the few things I don't take a penalty for on my Craft (cooking) check. )

Try Papa John's, if there's one in your area. Those aren't too bad for American pizzas, and very little grease, if any. Add a bit of extra basil to the top (if you can, get fresh basil leaves and crush them, or just get dried ones and sprinkle them) for some more Italian flavor. And of course, get only cheese, but then I know that not everyone feels that more than that is adulturation.
