Bruce Cordell has a history of turning side characters from his earlier books into protagonists. Raidon was a side character in Stardeep. Kiril was a side character in Darkvision. Ususi was a side character in Lady of Poison.
Although Lady of Poison might make you sit up and think: "Can this guy even write?" Fortunately it seems that Bruce has become better as a writer and/or has had his books more tightly edited since that first one. I will still not buy any of the books from this latest Abolethic Sovereignty trilogy, but not because of the author (in his role as a novelist) in question.
I have recently finished the Erevis Cale Trilogy, and my support of Realms novels will be/is on hiatus (depending on whether, or how soon, I buy The Twilight War trilogy). I am currently reading Going Postal. |

Nor will I--there are other books out there that I'd rather read. |

I would shake my fist at you and curse you, but I really am just jealous. I am hoping to find a PB at least for not too much; though I haven't done too much looking right now since money is tight. |

| I am currently reading Mistshore by Jaleigh Johnson. It's set in the barge city in the Waterdeep harbor, and is in the 4e Realms. Not bad, though I could do with a little less spellplague and eladrin. The story itself is fun, and I like the Mistshore area. |

| Finished Mistshore. Very good book. Love the Mistshore area, and the heroes were well-done. |

Tried to start Ascendency of the Last this morning.... just could not get interested in it since I kinda knew the ending.
Reading book 3 of the Elric Chronicle instead. |

Yes it is, at least if you are the type of person who likes "coming of age" stories. Overall I thought it was a good, fast-paced story. |

Saw the Fanged Crown and after flipping through it and noticing it didn't seem to be on the "fringe" of the 4e changes , I am giving it a go. So far so good, what better way to start than a little piracy ehh? |

| Just finished All Shadows Fled. Two things bothered me about this series. At some points it seemed like Ed Greenwood had never read the Avatar series and as a result there were some inconsistencies between the two series. The other thing that bothers me is the covers. Who's the guy with the eye patch? What's with the disembodied hand holding the scroll? As far as content is concered, however, I really enjoyed the series. Lots of action and excitement. Next on the list is Waterdeep. |

| I just finished Waterdeep and thought it was excellent. It was my first Troy Denning book and I think he did a great job picking up the characters of the previous novels by Ciencin. I really enjoyed the first three avatar books immensely. Next I will be finishing off the Finder's Stone trilogy with Song of the Saurials. |

| Just finished Bloodwalk. I liked it except for the fact that the flashbacks of the main villain(ess?) were poorly transitioned (IMO) and therefore confusing. |

| Finished Song of the Saurials last night and thought it was great. One of the most intriguing aspects of the book is that it's not always easy to like the heroes. They have some character traits that make you want to smack them. Starting The Night Parade today. |

| Finished The Night Parade last night. Not sure how I feel about it. There was a lot of hack & slash without a lot of character development, but it kept me entertained. One thing I did like is that there were actually casualties on the good guy side. Next on my list is Horselords. |

| Completed Horselords. It was much different from all other Realms novels I've read before. There was very little magic and it didn't really feel a whole lot like a Realms book to me. That being said it wasn't bad, but I did have a hard time pushing through to the end. We'll see if it picks up with Dragonwall. |

I've really got to get to reading these books. I've never actually read any scribes saying anything negative about them. So I think it's near time that I experienced them for myself.
