Ok, I finished re-reading The Gossamer Plain. What I really enjoyed this time was Kaanyr's part of the story. Great atmosphere, great settings, nice adventure story. Ok, the City of Brass came a bit short. If it was for me, half the novel could have taken place there.
What really got on my nerves was Myshik or whatshisname. Exotic monster PC created out of nowhere who instead of being the typical NPC random encounter victim in a dungeon suddenly turns out to be a PC in "Drizzt"-Mode who slays virtually everything. Really unmotivated and soulless to have him in there.
And: Kaanyr is quite a "softie" for being an evil cambion, don't you think? Wouldn't be surpised if he helped elder people to cross the street in his spare time...

| Done reading Avenger. Very good. Now I have finally begun the Twilight Giants trilogy (The Ogre's Pact - 120 pages in and I find it hard to drop). |

I just finished "Swordmage" and "Corsair" by Richard Baker. My count is now up to 60.
Next up, you guessed it... "Avenger" by Richard Baker |

I liked that one. Its one of the few non-Ed books I have read more than once or twice.
Hm, it seems like quite some time since I read a Realms novel now, maybe I should have a look in that shelf again. |

Bout done with Shadow's of Doom. Then I will read book 2 of that series: Cloak of Shadow's.
I think when I am done with that series, I will read the Wilds novels. |

I actually liked the "Twilight Giants" trilogy. But then, I've always been a fan of giant-related Realmslore. And there were a lot of musical related lore tidbits in that trilogy as well. |

I've never liked giants in D&D. I just don't see them as anything other than really big humans. I know that's not the way they've been written up, but that's my perception of them. |

I can see that. Especially with respect to the way they were portrayed in pre-2e days.
And I should add, also, that I'm particular about which giants I tend to like. Frost and fire giants are always a strong selling point for me. Though I never really cared for the desert or plain giants of DARK SUN. The beasthead giants were kinda cool, though. |

| I love the TSR giants, the lack of most of them was always the missing element in Dragonlance for me. Along with the standard humanoids and the various sylvan races they are my all time favourites. That might have been part of the reason that I liked the book, but it might also have been that it reminded me of the old Ellis and Cooper books I read as a kid. |

| Hmm, I see varied opinions on the The Twilight Giants trilogy. Personally I like things about giants and do see them as more than just "big humans". I finished The Ogre's Pact on Saturday. I found it to be a quick, easy and entertaining read. There wasn't too much going on so it paced very well. I started The Giant Among Us yesterday. I like how these are written and they don't deviate from the plot much so it's easy to keep track of what is going on. |

Finished The Fractured Sky. At the beginning it was really hard to read on. The whole gods' clash did not go well with me. But from Dweomerheart on, it was a great book!

| Finished re-reading The Parched Sea. It's been awhile. Funny how they explain the Harper's and Zhents. After the recent events, what happened to both of those organizations ? I own all of the books, but haven't read them all. Does it ever say anything about them or are they just forgotten ? |

Both groups were going strong at the end of 3E. In 4E, not so much... Zhentil Keep was flattened, and the Harpers disbanded. A new Harpers group exists, just to oppose the Shades.
Neither of those are developments that I can get behind. |

The Black Network still exists, also, but they operate out of Westgate and other similar locales now. And they're still largely engaged in the same activities as well. |

When I first read Blackstaff, I had not yet read much on the region's lore or the GHotR. So then the read was a real pain in the ... behind. Now after catching more up on that lore, it might probably be a much more interesting read. |

I'm not really up to date. The latest I read was Mistshore, and I didn't enjoy it much. Recently I got myself Elfshadow and Elfsong, and I surely liked these! So, I also ordered Evermeet - Island of the Elves and also Crucible, the fifth part of the Avatar-Saga (I had read the rest of them some time ago, but I heard that Crucible seems to be a really special book.. Troy Denning's got his ups and downs ;)!). |

Yeah, ElaineŽs books are classic. Always an excellent read. This said I hope youŽll enjoy Crucible. It is one of the best realms books I have read so far. Quite particular, but great. |

| Ok, just finished The Crystal Mountain. I think Reid did a really good trilogy and I loved the short re-appearance of my favorite drow wizard! Nevertheless the whole spellplague stuff makes me a bit sick, so I guess I need a FR novel break now and then better return to 2e or 3e novels. |

Just finished Book III of the Blades of Moonsea series, Avengers. It's a pretty good book but it wasn't as captivating as The Last Mythal series that Richard Baker also wrote.
Moving onto "The Captive Flame" right now. |
