I waited with a couple of the other people from my company in the cafeteria from 5:30-6:00. We immediately found Doug (Dhomal) and chatted with him. We even made an ad hoc sign that read Candlekeep in big block letters. No one else seemed to show, so we went to what we thought was supposed to be the second meetup, but no one was there either. I know Ed eventually came around, though he was talking with Jeff (from the realms list) for a while (Jeff is my roomate at the Radisson). I think the two main problems were that this year, there are a lot more people at Gen Con and that no one knows what anyone else looks like. If you want to meet with me (or each other I guess), come by the DoF signing that Eric and I are doing at 11:30 on Friday. We are immediately heading to the FR seminar after the signing is over.

Morrow, going to the secrets of the realms event, and will try to touch in later morrow night on what was said during that event, since the Hilton has a puter lab with free net access. Otherwise, that's it..... Oh, well besides getting Blackstaff signed....

See ya!

Which caferteria where you at? Me and Eric where at the one near the entrances into the Exhibit Hall.

Tho I was standing around for like 30 minutes in each area at the right times. I was like "Ok, c'mon. I know I remembered this right."

I also admit I feel like a bum because I went to the Hyatt twice thinking you where their Kuje, I couldn't remember for the love of gods for sure for some reason yesterday, I think my brain was just warped from all the activity and hustleness.

I am going to probs bring a "Candlkeep Member, Talk to me" sign and have Kuje put it on my back when I get into town in like a couple of hours from now, I'll be wearing this like limey green shirt and dark brown pants today, so if you see all three you know it's me for sure.

We really should try to do a rough meet up time, if everyone is going to the Secrets of the Realms (Third floor of the Hyatt, Noon) today will be a good starting point I say.

I'll attempt to check this one more time today before I get out of here, I have to get some cash, a camera or two and something else I forget..But really we should.

I have my tickets for Secrets alrdy, so will try to meet with Eytan and the others, but not you, cause i figured you were coming to the hotel or we'd try the entrance part, so I'll try to find them at the hyatt later today.

Sorry for not being here at 2:30ish when we agreed. It wasn't my fault that I got stuck on the tarmac for a hr waiting for your storms to blow away enough that it was safe to fly.

Well Gencon is over for me except for morrow, if I feel like wandering the Dealer's Hall. Oh and Sage, I'll answer some Castlemourn questions when I get home. I did manage to get the Player's book, so it's a start.

Spin the Yarn was...... interesting. Really to hard to comment on but..... 2006's story should be interesting. I hope my four ideas get added. :)

2005's should be posted soon, according to Ed. He said sometime after Gencon since it's edited and what not. It just needs to be added by the web team/designer.....

So, thanks again everyone for the signings, etc.

Neato.

I was going to pick up the Player's Guide myself... but all my current gold pieces are set aside for Ptolus this month.

Well, alas GenCon Indy 2006 has come to a end and I thought I'd post some thoughts to share with you guys.

As some of you know, our meet-up failed for the most part. It seemed EytanBernstein, along with Dhomal and a couple of others met up in one spot, my self and Eric Boyd at another and Kuje all by him self . How we all missed each other I truely do not know. I failed on finding and locating Kuje on Thursday Night with Eric beside me, which I felt like a huge baboons ass for the most part and like I wasted his time, so apologizes there if I did, I know you where getting hungry.

But, me and Kuje met up and where with each other (and his mum) for the most part of the weekend, and was rather enjoyable for the most part, had an excellent time with the two of them. Met Eytan for a brife moment but not again it seemed, never met Dhomal or any of the others. Kuje managed to get all of his books signed that he wanted which was rather cool as well.

Neither me or Kuje saw R.A. Salvatore ONCE during the four-day event, and he had several signigns. It's not very hard to miss a 6+foot tall man at his build, so we decided that he had mysterious came in, left, came in left, etc. Lisa Smedman cancled her only signing, which was diapointing cause it would have been nice to met her.

We encountered Ed several times during the event, and saw him with ladies a few times , made one of the girls blush a hundred times over in Spin a Yarn. Very nice girl by the way. We got several "Oh Ed..." in a flattered voice from her, which was very funnny. Most of the things will not be seen in Spin a Yarn I'm afraid, at first I thought it was going to based on a fair theme, then it got very dirty for some reason. This lady in the front of us kept making it dirty (She over rode a couple of ideas that people suggested), which I didn't appreicate at all personally. But Ed went along with it, made fun of a couple of things, made the lady blush (the Wizards lady that he was with).

Secrets of the Realms was not very secretive at all, we where shown things that have already been out this year, and a couple of things for next year, half of which they couldnt talk about. Which is weird, because we at Candlekeep already know things on some of these novels/other books. We had alot of questions asked, but nothing was really told to us. I didn't like that Chris fellow at all personally, he ignored Kuje at the very end. Please go to this topic ~ http://www.candlekeep.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7519 ~ for the details on that, I wont post it here for the most part but he came to me (the one sitting beside Kuje) instead of him, so, as planned, I passed it to Kuje who ended up having his questioned blowned by at the end. So really Secrets werent revealed to us in the seminar, but I highly appreicated Eric Boyd and Ed being there and talking/answering the questions as best Chris would allow them.

GenCon Event Hall was an excellent place to be if you wanted to shop and look around. Me or Kuje didnt participate in any of the events being held, and for your info, the only costed 1.50 or so to obtain, so rather affordable. The Eventhall was excellent like I said, they had a few statues that me/Kuje will post ASAP, some fun booths, nicely costumed people, etc. Outside the Eventhall they had a couple of bands playing, only four of them but they where good all in all, I purchased one of their CD's. Saturday was probally the worst day to do your shopping/viewing at the Event Hall, you had alot of people with 1-Day passes in their, and alot of them seemed to give the "I'm 1 day, move" feel about them and didn't give a day about you. We noticed a huge differece between today and yesterday with that. Thursday and Friday where reasonable days to look around, purchase things, etc.

Indianapolis Convention Centre is a fair sized place, the Marriot, Westin and Hyatt all connect to it (and the Hyatt connects to the Circle Centre Mall, a mall thats like five stories in size, but has alot of your Mall Shops in it ). So thank you THO for sharing all of that detail, it did help for the most part with everything (apart the meet-up ).

I was highly disapointed with the Wizards of the Coast booth. They had a ton of space inside this thing basically like ( : ) shaped, (the dots being the the pay here parts, and some stuff behind them). There was TONS of empty space on the walls ('s, with basically only new stuff, which was again, very disapointing. I saw more booths with more Forgotten Realms/Wizard Coast items then they did. They did have some excellent banners, one of which I took a picture of and again will post ASAP.

Tons of Art was there. You couldn't really walk away from any of it with outsaying "I liked that" and grabbed a bussiness card from someone.

Authors Alley. Well, I give high kudo's to Elaine Cunningham for putting it together . But, they seemed to have hidden it on her. It was beside this massive tower that was inside the Exhibt Hall. Eric Boyd didnt even know where it was at Thursday night. It was a fair place to be in, but they had the back tables like --- up against the wall untill today when we noticed them in a /-\ type formation, which was much nicer looking. Several others authors where there with their books. Elaine did do a very nice job setting all of this together (and had great reason too after what I saw in the Wizards Area), and was huge disapointment she couldn't attend it.

I think overall you should come to GenCon Indy if you have friends who are coming, plan to have some money, and also want to walk around Indy it self and look at the buildings, then do so. It really was very nice over all with a few bumps along the way, including a man telling Kuje there is a thing called "tax" after he had a price of $9.00 on his tag , a tag that did not say "+ tax" on it. Besides that though, it was very good and fun to be with people and encounter people, see the authors, artists, costumes, etc.

8/10 for GenCon as a whole. 5/10 for Wizards Booth, 5/10 for Spin Yarn/Secrets (Chris the WoTC employee for being a bum at Secrets, to much Adult Material for Spin). 9/10 for Navigation of GenCon Indy + Indianpolis Attractions.

Do come to GenCon Indy if you get a chance, don't get terribly hyped up over say Secrets of the Realms, but do get hyped up for all the fun and relaxation you will have here in Indiana.

Edit:
And remember, pictures of Indianpolis + GenCon Indy will be posted ASAP from me and Kuje. .

I tried to stop a few people who I thought were wearing a Candlekeep badge, but no luck. I made it to the Spin A Yarn.... I put in the first item (a bay whose first words would create a magical effect). Had my two year old son with me. Too bad I will not be able read the story to him until he is much older. I had to leave when my son got to rambunctious for the venue.

I gave up looking for Candlekeep badges halfway through the day and just hooked up with friends I knew.

I think that the easiest way to ensure that everyone meets up next year is to actually schedule an official event in the Gen Con events list. It doesn't need to be much more than "Candlekeep Celebration." They will assign it to a room, then everyone will be in one place. Everyone can leave after that, but at least people won't miss each other.

Neri, me, and my ma were there. Not sure how long you were there but I gave four ideas. We were on the right side of the room a few rows back.

Hey guys -- sorry I couldn't meet up with you all at the Con. I made the tactical mistake of flying in on Thursday, so as to arrive at 3 p.m., but someone decided to try and bomb planes from England and it locked down all the airlines. I ended up getting in at 8 or 8:30.

Cheers

WOW. :( That sucks. I guess I managed to miss the rush since I flew in on the same day and I made it, except for the storm in Indy.

I think that next year dependeant on how many of us coming, we should try to find an empty area and see if we could reserve it for a small fee so we all have something to do after the Exhibit Hall closes, which we found our selves to be rather bored after that.

Well before one goes and spend other monies, perhaps a headband might be better then dandges. The one problem with badges is that many could be wearing name tags. Some reported they stopped looking for candlekeep ones.

Just an idea to consider is a head band with a candle (paper) on top. A design could be worked out and offerred as a donwload or file transfer to thouse planing on attending. Something that each going to attend could printout.

Make it a crown, perhaps?

I have neven been to GenCon, but I do hear that some strange things are worn.

Other options could include setting a meeting place, hotel lobby, etc. that does not require a cost. Just a few ideas to consider as it appears some of you were in the same room and did not see each other.

There again there is a long time to plan debugging for next GenCon what went wrong with this one. *Smiles*

I am hoping that next year I will be attending, as Indy isn't too far from where I live (well, a few hours, but not insurmountable). I was trying to think of some pointers for what to do to organize the keepers that show up for this one, but we do have a while before it comes round again.

Well, I was already pondering some fun things we could do for teh evening. Like games for example, and I'd bring my tarot cards as a fun bit.

I dont know, I was thinking that hopefully next year we've got candlekeep shirts, or in a few months one of us gets a wild hair and offers to get some made for everyone and all he/she has to pay is the base pay of the shirt.

Cause I've already thought about giving out Candlekeep Shirts at the next meet up and only asking for the material total and not make any profit and return all money to Alaundo in some form to help pay for teh site.

Edit: By return, I mean just giving him all the money. Say Joy the Monkey decides to buy 200.00 worth of TSHIRTS. Well, Joy the Monkey has dedicated for everyone 200.00 to Candlekeep by making these shirts and having other memebers buy them at base price, so Joy the Monkey isn't really paying 200.00 by him self.

Well met

That's a very kind gesture, Neriandal , thank ye As I mentioned previously, I did get a shirt printed for GENCON UK a few years ago... not too cheap, but mayhaps there are good deals elsewhere.

I hope to attend GENCON Indy next year for the first time, being a special occassion 'n' all
