Please read all the way throught this first post before contributing to this thread. Some of it is a re-hash, I know, but it will save us all trouble in the end if you read this now.

-Walker

I recently asked Ed, via THO the following question:

quote:
I wonder, THO, how does Ed generate topics for his WotC articles? Do they assign him topics, or does he choose them? I was thinking that it might be cool to poll the readers (on these forums, or on the others) in order to determine topics. Just put 5-10 choices up, and see which would be the most popular, and run with that one. Just a (respectful) thought.

To which, THO replied:

quote:
Originally posted by The Hooded One
By all means run such a poll, because Ed now has more freedom than he started out with. Initially, he would suggest a long list of topics and send it in, and at the WotC end, topics would be approved or nixed, and Ed would then set to work on the surviving ones. I understand things have become more flexible.
love,
THO

Given her encouragement, I intend on running such a poll. As I didn't want to populate the poll with my own hobby-horses, I wanted the community here to nominate some topics.

The parameters for the nomination process have allready been detailed in this thread: http://forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8701. The previous thread also has a sample nomination at the end.

A few reminders:

- One person, one vote. You may either nominate ONE topic, or you may second ONE topic. You may not do both, and you certainly may not do either one more than once.

- In order for a nomination to be confirmed, the nominee MUST be seconded.

- As nominees are confirmed, they will be added to a list visible in the second post on this thread, reserved for confirmed nominees.

- This thread is NOT a place for discussion. Two kinds of posts should appear here: Nominations, and Seconds. A separate thread will be opened for discussion.

- The nomination process will last until February 3rd, 2007. After that, I will ask a moderator to lock this thread.

Good Posting!

The Mines of Tethymar
The Mines of Tethymar are an oft mentioned, but little described portion of the Forgotten Realms that appears in a region that gets the lion's share of print. How were the Dwarves of Tethymar distinct from other Shield Dwarves, and what are they doing today to retain their cultural distinctiveness? What materials did the mines produce, and how much yet remains? How might re-opening the Mines affect the regional economy? What manner of guardians or denizens prevent the re-opening/reclaimation of the mines?

I would love to see an article on Fey involvement in the Realms, specifically, the High Forest/Dessarin Vale areas. Fey involvement in any area of the Realms would be great. Information such as their types and numbers, hierarchy, relations with Druids, Bards and elves. Whether they have formed alliances with any of these groups etc... Some Realms-specific info would be great!

I would like to know more about the Imaskari Empire itself before it fell. I would also like to know more about the wizards who ruled it and their lasting impact on magic on Toril.

Id like to nominate a suggestion:

Faiths of Faerun

One deity would be done per month and consist 5 weekly

Week 1: History of the deity its place in the realms

Week 2: A temple of that deity (similar to the Spires of the Morning and The house of Firehair article in PoF)

Week 3: Organisation of the deities church (How is the church structured? Whose in charge? Who and where are its promineint leaders, Does the deity support Paladin or monk orders and if so where are the chapter houses and Monstaries)

Week 4: Heresy does the deity have any heresys? If so what are they? What do they believe in? What churches are infected with this heresy?

Week 5: Aspects of the deity: This would be primarily a crunchy article which would have stats for the deities aspect (CR 10-12) as seen in the Miniatures hand book. This weeks article would also include a couple of adventure hooks related to the deity and its church

“I am the King of Rome, and above grammar”

Emperor Sigismund

"Its good to be the King!"

There is no need to coninue seconding the Mines of Tethymar. Its nomination has allready been confirmed. Voting will take place in Part 3: The Poll. You retain your vote, and thus are able to second another topic, or to nominate your own.

On a side note, it is nice to know that my own topic has such broad support...

I would like to suggest an article about the ancient empires of Narfell and Raumathar. As far as I know, there is very little published information about these empires regarding their history, their magic (And the ways that they shaped the magic of the modern East), or about the war between the two empires.

Unapproachable East gave considerable attention to these to kingdoms, and generated prestige classes based upon their respective magical traditions. So you might look there.

Your nomination, however, is accepted and awaits seconding.

No I haven't. I take it should. Heh. Sorry, I'm a 2nd edition holdout, so some of the newer lore created under the new system probably has slipped past my radar, so if that's the case, feel free to remove my nomination. You won't hurt my feelings.

Well, from another 2ed. holdout; Serpent Kingdoms is in my opinion the 3ed. book least dependent on editions. If you want updates on the land around the Chultan peninsula, Western Heartlands and information on serpent peoples in general this is a book you should defiantly get Varl.

First I wanted to do something for the short folk, but with the mines of T. as first runner-up we covered some of that allready. So I will propose the following:

How about detailed information on the Star Elves. We had the introduction of this folk in severeal products now (mainly UE). But I would like to get to know them better, e.g. their history, racial tie-in with the rest of the elven sub-races, information on their home plane, the future outlook, costums, traditions, political structure and possible intrigues, the war with the nilshai, unique magics and so forth.

The proposal is on the floor. Do I hear a second?

I second Historical Survey of the Imaskari Empire!
My current campaign has several ties with the Imaskari, and I'd just love to see more material about the wizards, the place, the Imaskarcana and the fall of the empire!

Okay guys, two days into the process we're almost half way there! There are some 'senior' sages that I know have great ideas that we've not heard from yet. Get in there!

Note: As previously mentioned, if we have more than 10 succesfull nominees, we will run a set of polls to narrow the field down to ten, and then we will take the final poll.

Taking a cue from the Discussion thread, I'd like to nominate
quote:
Regional Magic
Of late, much has been said of stylistic differences in magic paralleling various regions, but little of much practical use. What spells are common to what regions? How do wizards of various regions differ in practice? Clearly such a distinction has been attempted via PrC's (Nar Demonbinder, Rauthmar Battlemage, Red Wizard, etc...) and with Feats (see Races of Faerun). Is there a simpler way that this could be handled?
I'm particularly interested in differing cultural beliefs concerning the nature of magic, and how it functions.

Just to keep all topic descriptions on one thread, Masters and Apprentices is now reposted here:

Master's and Apprentices
Moreso than any other class, the Wizard presupposes the influence of a Master either in a school setting or the more traditional Master/Apprentice arrangement. DM's, thus are left with the work of creating this ambiguous teacher. Can we have a weekly article giving info on a wizard from a different region or city that is inclined to train wizards, what their interests are, what their prefered spells are, and how notable they are (i.e. if my PC says, "I was taught by so-and-so" does that mean anything to anyone but me?).

I re-post this here as this is the nomination thread.

It would also be interesting to have an update on Turmish, the Polyhedron articles are not easily available anymore. The old Vilhon Reach book has some information, but there is much still unanswered. More settlements, rulers, regional details and the happenings in the land.

Seconded. I remember a generic Dragon article about different styles of casting, with frost wizards having their Magic Missiles look like Ice shards, another might have her missiles look like arrows, etc... that sort of thing. It would be interesting to know if there are similar regional variations on 'common' spells.

Just a reminder, guys, time is running out on the Nomination process. If you've been waiting for your time, the time is now. We still need four more topics. I did not anticipate that we might have a deficiency of participation...
