I'm probably looking in the wrong place.

I'd love to try some pbp, but never have. PM me a game i could lurk at. I think it would be fun to play with someone who has tabletop software. |

As Xysma said, you gain them retroactively as in 1 hp per level of an ability modifier increase. Meaning a +1 mod bonus at 15th level would net you an extra 15 hp.
4E's hit points don't rely on Con, they are static bonuses gained per level. (well they do, but just at first level and it's done by your CON score, not modifier). |

In 4e, if your CON score rises, you get additional hit poitns equal to the rise (regardless of what level you might be). So a 1st level wizard with a con of 10 and 16 hit points gets 4 extra hit points if his con suddently becomes 14, just like a 14th level swordmage with 18 con and 116 hit points gains 2 extra hit points if her con increases to 20.
In 2e, I'm pretty sure you did *NOT* get extra hit points retroactively, but it's been a long time since I played that edition, so you'll want to consult a 2e expert.

Or you could check the rules yourself in 2e. That depends if you still have your books or not. I'm conservatively inclined to say . . . no.

| Concur with IDj. I just checked my 2e PHB and it explicitly states that you retroactively gain HP when your Con goes up. |
Doggedly converting 3e back to what D&D should be... Sigh... And now 4e as well. |

Can't, actually.
In fact, I played 2e for five years and never actually owned a PHB myself. Mostly, I was the DM, so i didn't really need it.
