Actually, kensai/mage comes into his own towards the end of the game, when he will have reactivated his primary class, so I choose another fighter instead.

I trust you're speaking of the best mix of classes for adventuring in the Realms?
And where's the cleric? |

Well, when my pickpocket is high I simply steal whole the lot of healing potions, so I really don't see the use for cleric's healing abilities. I'm not familiar with cleric's most powerful combat spells, but a mage also has powerful spells so I prefer to play with a mage instead of cleric/mage or pure cleric. Unless, of course, if someone can convince me otherwise. |

Touch decision. But my favorite by far, and the most effective that I've seen since I've played (and that hasn't been very long) is:
Fighter/Psychic Warrior (Psionic) Monk Monk/Sorcerer/Ranger/Rogue Cleric Sorcerer Barbarian
That pretty much describes the group in the campaign I'm running.

"What's that," asked Mogget. "Sardines," said Sam. "I knew they were standard rations, so I got a few tins for you." "What are sardines?" Moggest asked suspiciously. "And why is there a key? Is this some sort of Abhorsen joke?" Abhorsen by Garth Nix

Any party in which characters are more than their class sound good to me. |
I'm so, so very guilty for no reason or rhyme; Infinite victims, infinitesimal time. |

You have my most heart felt agreement. What fun can be had when people are playing characters rather than character sheets. |

Actually, even though I am already playing with the described party, except that instead of two fighters I am playing with one paladin, I have changed my mind about my favorite party, but I will not start a new game again. So, without further delay, here it is:
Dworf (magic and poison resistance, I believe 19 constitution, and I think that they do not have limits in their experience advancement) BERSERKER or PALADIN (probably paladin because of the Carsomyr since I do not use pure thief who can use any weapon ability at high level); proficiencies: two wielding weapon two stars, other stars for two-handed sword, one star for staff and long bow FIGHTER/THIEF/MAGE ; Spells: blur and improved invisibility, stoneskin, and sometimes Spell Immunity: Divination. 3 stars for two weapons, 1 for War Hammer, and the rest on Katana. One star for some missile weapon like short bow for instance if you want all your characters to have missile weapons, although I find it more challenging if at least one is not equipped with such a weapon. As for the backstabbing and other thieving abilities, I would give no points for set traps and walk silently, 100 points for find traps and 1another 100 for lock pick, and the rest for pickpocket, or until I think that it is enough. If and after such time, I would distribute what is left (if there anything left) on hide in shadows. That means that I would probably for most of the game use potions for invisibility and invisibility spells, in particular more than three or four of the improved invisibility because of the backstab and dungeons, where I like to walk invisible ahead while I detect traps. Unless if I can summon a familiar who uses invisibility or something like that. Speaking of familiar, I do not get what does it mean that only a protagonist can summon a familiar. What exactly is a protagonist?? CLERIC; I heard that cleric has great offensive spells, especially that with some higher-level spell you could whack tough opponents, dragons included. So, I would like to try to play with him if I will play for instance newer winter nights. Although, I think that only a druid can cast awesome fire elemental, so that is also something to consider. Oh well.. CONJURER INVOKER Another specialist mage, not sure which. Probably the one who would cast spells like lower resistance, so whatever school of magic that is – that would be her specialization.
In short:
PALADIN FIGHTER/THIEF/MAGE CLERIC CONJURER INVOKER SPECIALIST MAGE (?)

For my preferred party is:
1) Fighter (preferably a dwarf) 2) Assassin (preferably someone who is a Cyricist.) 3) Wizard or Archmage (someone who specializes in shadow magic.) 4) Cleric (any faith is fine but not of the Sune faith) 5) Paladin (preferably of Tempus or Tyr) 6) Thief (a worshipper of Mask is preferred.) 7) Bard (for entertainment along the way.) 8) Ranger (needed as scout and guide) |
